Router setup recommendations

Hi everyone

I would like to extend the range of my current wifi and thus be able to share files with my neighbor.

I'm thinking of buying a tp-link W8960N adsl2+ router to replace my linksys WRT54GL setup and thus boost the range due to the fact that the tp-link supports 802.11n

Now my question is - what does he need to get on his side? Since there is some distance between our 2 houses.

What kind of distance are we talking about? Is there a thick brick wall between your houses? Generally, 802.11n makes it's way over to your neighbor. I'm seeing my neighbor's Wifi network with ease (and it's not secured :wtf

I would try to borrow some equipment from a friend and try it out before buying anthing.

The TP-Link W8960N is a good choice. Have you seen the recent review?

What's the distance, in meters, to your neighbour? Do you guys share a boundary wall? It would be much easier, faster, more reliable, and more cost effective to just run a CAT5 cable from your house to his. Obviously depends on distance though.

This would indeed be ideal. WiFi must be a second option.

Hi thank you for the replies.

To give you a better idea of my circumstances - I have uploaded a google earth shot of my home and the neighbors home.

Point A is where I have my adsl telkom line installed and where I will have to add the tp-link router - or better solution.
Distance from point A to center of neighbors house C is +- 65m

Point B is where I'm now adding a second office to my home (i'm a fulltime webmaster)
Distance from point B to center of neighbors house C is +- 40m

My question is - what do I buy for point A (maybe the tp-link as mentioned) point B and Point C.

I really prefer not to go the cat 5 route - getting my tubby *** in the roof is a death sentence.

I can see three of my neighbours (two unsecured). (Not apartments, but houses)

At point B, you could choose TL-WA701ND working as Access Point mode. To
ensure the quality of communication, please connects TL-W8960N to TL-WA701ND
by a cable.

At point C, you could choose TL-WA701ND working as Bridge mode.

If the quality of communication is not very good, you could buy TL-ANT2409B
to connect to the TL-WA701ND at point B.
