Router that allows me to dial out with multiple ADSL accounts

I know there is another thread about routers that's active at the moment, but I'm specifically looking for a router that has a proper bridging mode that allows me to dial out with multiple accounts. I currently have a Sitecom router, and the damn thing doesn't allow multiple connections, and has various other minor issues with the firmware (such as being unable to remove account details if you accidentally screw them up).

So if I am using my uncapped account (which is stored on the router), it goes to hell, and I want to dial out from my capped account on my PC, I am unable to do so. The only way I can do it is to do a factory reset on the router and add my capped account details, which is a huge mission.

I spoke to someone at a retail store yesterday about getting a router specifically for this. He called their suppliers for a recommendation and he was told the only router that supports this functionality and that they can get for him is R2500 (it was a high end Netgear). The entry level routers don't have it. I find this really weird since my old Telkom mega100 and old Dlink both used to let me do this.

Any suggestions?

Smoothwall - you can have 5 PPPoE sessions programmed, and dial which one you want.

PS - it's not a router, it's a dedicated firewall, and need a dedicated PC (but can also run in a VM).

You actually need to look pretty hard to find a router which does not support bridging, so I'm not sure what you're asking. Or maybe its just me...

He wants a router that supports PPPOE-Passthrough or halfbridging. Have an account active in the router but also be able to override it by dialing from Windows via another account.

Am Actually looking for the same thing, im surprised my old cheapo Telkom router had that option but my much more expensive Netgear does not

That's what I thought... but I picked up the Sitecom (it was ridiculously cheap at the time) and was really surprised when I found I couldn't dial out from my pc while the router was connected. I mailed their support team and they told me that it's not possible on their router. That's why I asked the guy at the store so that I would make sure I got something that did support bridging, and unfortunately he seemed to know less than I did. At least he called the supplier but it seems the "techie" at the supplier knew about as much as the sales guy did.

I am using a D-link DSL-2500U plugged into a wireless router. It has one account permanetly connected on the router and lets me dial a second account from my PC. While it only has only one LAN port and no wireless it is cheap and stable.

Would of been ideal if it did have wireless

blaaislaai ill be really surprised if your netgear doesnt actually allow it. I had an old DG834 that "didnt" allow it. WHat you had to do was enter the admin through normal means then type in a path specifically in the address bar, it opened a page in the settings that you cant normally access and it let me set up half bridge.
I actually havent had a router as good as that one since!

Zolly currently i have a TPlink W8980, ive got it working exactly as you want. http://www.dbg.co.za/ sells them, and their prices are pretty good.

Although in future id rather fork out more and get a nice netgear or dlink.

EDIT err W8980 not W8970:)

Thanks. I'm aiming for a max of R1500 on the router so I'll take a look. Would prefer to spend R1000 or close to that coz I don't need uber wireless.

And who are these dbg guys? They look like a reseller but can I register with them like Esquire?

Sadly it does not have half-bridge or PPPOE passthrough, however it does have bridging but I cannot switch to that mode, then I lose wifi connectivity and all devices needs to dial.

It's a netgear DGNV2200v3, I even asked Netgear themselves and they said it's hardware issues preventing them from adding it with a firmware update. Oh well

My TP-Link W8970 can do it and as a MyBB member you qualify for a decent discount as well if you buy through the website.
I will have to check on the web site, but I think it is the one mentioned a bit earlier.
They have a rep here on MyBB as well.

Edit:
Uniterm Direct = dbg.co.za

If the wireless works 100% on your existing router/modem and you don't mind having another router, then you can always get something like the cheap D-Link DSL-2500U or similar TP-Link TD-8817 unit. I'm not 100% sure whether that TP-Link modem supports bridge/half-bridge mode, but I'd guess that it would!

Unfortunately you cannot have multiple PPPoE connections stored on the D-Link modems, but you can dial 1 from the router and as many as you'd like from PC's when its in half-bridge mode. This is why I like to pair my modem with a MikroTik router, because it can handle multiple simultaneous PPPoE connections - just like with SmoothWall/IPCop.
