Don't know how you did it but thank you and yes I'm in. Was starting to entertain the idea of moving to an area with faster internet, but really don't want to.

For the Royal Ascot residents. While I can't provide much info at this stage. I can tell you that a major undertaking is happening as I type this with regards to getting Fibre. Survey's are due to go up soon. Look out for large posters in Paddocks Shopping Centre in the next couple of months. I will try and get a mention from the MyBB folks too to help spread the word once everything goes live.

Rehashing this thread. For those that live in Royal Ascot, and maybe take the Myciti bus into town, what are the travel times like? I am starting a new job at the V&A, and was wondering if taking the bus would be a good choice.

Google Maps have the MyCiti stations and schedules and you can mostly rely on it (don't use it myself often, but when I do the buses are at most 2 minutes ahead or behind).
So to arrive at 8:00 at the V&A on Monday morning, leave at 7:00. Take the same route by car and it takes you almost an hour on a bad day, half an hour on a good day (select the car mode for directions on that map route). So taking MyCiti isn't faster, but it is a lot easier to just get on and off of a bus than to find parking in the city.

It's a 30 min trip to the Civic Center during peak traffic via MyCiti, about 20min if you take the Express buses which have fewer stops. It'f probably around 40min in total to the Waterfront in peak traffic. Much quicker than driving.

I used to take the bus every day for a few years until I changed jobs. Very reliable.

Does anyone know where the outdoor gym is going? Every day I see another piece is missing.

Hi Aessa, I'm not 100% sure but I believe it is to adjust some aspects of the equipment. It will certainly return don't worry. I'll try and find out what the situation is.

Word is that they picked up quality issues with some of the components and the supplier were contacted to rectify. Hopefully it will be back soon. :)

We're looking at possibly moving to Arena North. We were wondering if you smell the refinery from there often, from Birkdale Village we can smell it perhaps two or three times a year. Also noticed there are almost no burglar bars around there, seems odd but I assume that's because there isn't a need for that. Have the fibre guys been seen there as proof that the area is part of the fibre roll-out?

Anything else worth knowing about?

edit: Mind changed, we're staying put. :)

Nope.. just sea smell some mornings unless that’s the refining smell lmao. Happens 1-2 times a year. lmao if sea smell is refining smell.

Fibre yes.. OpenServe which is awesome. Other estates(outside of Royal Ascott) sometimes have frogfoot eg burgundy estate etc which sucks.

Burglar Bars.. they do have them, it’s those for show types haha ie metal flat bar across window on most units’s bottom floor. The need.. not sure. This estate requires a criminal clear cert to become a resident(never had that before though estates in Jhb would require application to be made to them). Apparently there’s not been a burglary incident for years but then they do have street cameras all over.

Was thinking of moving but dreaded moving again so we shuffled to a bigger place. Don’t see us moving from here anytime soon.. one thing this place does miss is the typical Jhb north stuff ie clubhouse, common areas like parks, pool etc which is handy if you have kids(park is outside the estate). Also it lacks community. Previous place in Jhb was big on that with everything from halloween to new year parties etc and kids running around freely. Everyone knew everyone as a result.

The one bad thing is this place has an apartment block inside which sucks due to type of residents etc younger, singles. Maybe I’m just old lmao. But this means there is more traffic to those apartments with zippy drivers(well one lady down the road is also zippy).

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a place at Equini, 1 Grand National Boulevard, Royal Ascot, Milnerton.

I was wondering if i can get some feedback, if the apartment is a good idea to buy, i really like the area as i am currently renting within the area.

If i can get the pros and cons regarding living there, i would appreciate it :)

I was gonna say that Grand National Boulevard is a long, speed bump, traffic circle x3 road.. I live on the end of that road. That’s easily 5-7m x2 of life everyday.

The address u have is 1, so the above isn’t an issue. Things I’ve disliked..
1. Lack of space (I was in Jhb for a decade so I miss this).
2. Lots of cars vs entry roads, apparently not as bad as burgundy.
3. Spar @ Paddocks sucks/pricey, no Virgin active at Paddocks. This is the 1st time I live far (>2km from gym so I cancelled). Yes canal & tableview are options but they equally far away.
4. Most of the properties have early mid-life issues ie plumbing etc stuff that need repair. Properties apparently went up fast so the usual issues related to it ie waterproofing with some units which escalate if you haven’t maintained.
5. Cpt is coastal.. mould is a general issue in this area as it’s on/near a wetland. Something to keep an eye on.

On the good side..

I’d say it’s good value vs location. Close to highway, major malls(bayside & canal), business parks etc. On the myCiti bus route which is handy(though never used it). Fibre is established in area. I was even considering buying due to the above even if you move it will remain attractive due to location vs cost.

I reckon if you get a good deal on an apartment it will likely be worth it.. but know that this is likely not entry market (rentals are pricey) nor is it extreme convenience (like staying in canal when u work there). So value conscious and car ownership required. Looking ahead Pinelands will likely be where people are in a buying spree due to the Amazon headquarter change along with Mowbray and Rosebank. Just saying..
