Coral Grove anyone? (who knew there were so many different complexes??)

Looks like we're going to rent before we buy. Definitely looking for a townhouse / freestanding house of some kind.

I've been looking at a lot of places in Royal Ascot as I am also looking at buying there...

If you want a freestanding house, please do yourself a favour and go look at Royal Windsor... It is sort of part of Royal Ascot, but you go around to get to them.. Those freestanding houses are perfect and I'd love to live there!

For what it's worth, after getting some info from TelkomZA recently it seems the southern part (south of the magic VDSL roundabout) will be stuck with old slow ADSL for a long time. You can't connect to the faster exchange and the one I myself do connect to is as far away as possible. An upgrade would apparently entail digging up the road side and pulling in new cable, which probably won't be happening soon, if ever.

Thank **** I'm north of the 'VDSL' circle then... :D

The street lights in Grand National have a weird way of switching on and off randomly (jogging at 22:00 at night and just as you reach one, its state changes....weird. We have speculated about why it happens...even associating it with the crap ADSL the southerners have to endure ;)

Wow, I should have known there is a wiki on this, this is the Internet after all :) I can assure you that I don't in any way think I'm switching these lights through some magic or brain waves. The CCTV camera footage of the street might shed some light on the matter. I do know that not all of them do this, maybe 4. I thought maybe a light on the edge is influenced by my body heat waves or sound waves, but I have nothing to back this.

It's a good one to consider specifically because the MyCiti is now at the door step of Royal Ascot.

But even in the car traffic should be 30 - 40 minutes depending what time you need to be at work.
MyCiti are currently on strike. They don't have that many buses either - never see them much.

Strange I've seen no difference in their frequency this week.

Because some workers strike doesn't mean the wheels stop turning necessarily.

We've applied to rent a chestnut ridge place. It looked epic :)

It has a landline. I assume ADSL can just be installed as normal?

Cell signal was dodgy downstairs. Better upstairs. And only EDGE ito Internet. But the ADSL will take care of that...

Any horror stories to be aware of??

OK. Final questions.

We'll be signing a lease this week either way.

Chestnut Ridge vs La Camargue.

Anyone stay in either?

Chestnut Ridge - can you hear the road a lot? There seemed to be a lot of road noise.

La Camargue - what about the horses? How often do they run around that Racecourse? Are they loud?

Gosh I would love to wake up to the sound of horses. When I move down to the Cape I will keep this thread in mind.

What if they are galloping around a racetrack, piloted by shouty jockies?? :p

I live opposite the racetrack. No noise from it whatsoever!

The horses are taken for a run every morning - early, around 6am or so. You hardly hear them. I walk past the race track and hardly hear the horses or jockeys. There is way more noise from road traffic.

That is good news indeed :)

I went to have a look at Royal Windor this past weekend, they had a 3 bedroom simplex house on show. It doesn't have the wow factor I was hoping to get. It might be different if it was a duplex though. Bad cell signals too, so its a nono for me. TBH I actually prefer the other side of the racecourse where all those circles are.

Yes. That cell reception should even be an issue there at all is ridiculous.

But it is an issue. :(

Yes, was quite surprised that there's no 3G there (I'm with MTN/Voda), only good thing is there's a Telkom box so I can get ADSL.

(off-topic) I'm now looking more at proper houses now towards the panorama/monte vista areas.

Family trust put in an offer over the weekend. Place in Nottingham Square. One of the duplexes at the front. Undercover parking below and a single neighbour on top. Absolutely fantastic view from the balcony. Insane levies. 2 bedroom.

Super excited. :D
