You're on of the lucky ones. Before you enter any address or number on that page, zoom in on the map to the Royal Ascot area. Note the green zone only covers half of the area. :(

Indeed yes. Because it's really nice to have pictures right where they matter rather than talking about them, here it is:

Ah OK. I see it's the bottom end of Royal Ascot that's getting fibre. The part with the worst cell phone reception.

I doubt it, that's just plain "On your mark" red. If you pan to Plattekloof or Bishopscourt you'll see the purple FTTH areas.

@hj2k_x How are you enjoying Royal Ascot? Would you recommend the area?

It is one of the areas I am considering.

Yes, we've been there a month now. Really enjoying it. The traffic hasn't been an issue so far. Seems nice and safe. I think some complexes are better than others so you need to bear that in mind...

So... there is an active DFA fibre running along the smaller road at the end of Grand National Boulevard past Paddocks and Cape Grand China. Would anyone be interested in trying to pull a Parkhurst here? It sounds like the transition isn't pleasant, but it would be rather nice to get 50Mbps+200GB for almost the same price I pay now for 4Mbps and a bunch of data. Or maybe somehow convince Telkom to use that to reduce the copper length.

A man claiming to be from Telkom just rang the bell at the main gate (La Camargue) wanting to be let in so he could tell me in person about how my ADSL line has been upgraded and how that would affect me.

I didn't let him in.

He said they'd tried to reach me earlier today and he had my contact details.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Is it legit?

Damn dude. I'm also in La Camargue. Small world. Two ladies went around to a colleagues place and got him to sign up for VDSL. we cannot get that where we are so seems like a scam to me.

Mmmm. So strange. Don't know what the dude's end game was.

This was happening in Milnerton Ridge a few weeks ago. Everyone reported that the guys look the part, but are pushy about getting access to the property for no good reason. The general feeling was that it is some scam, but nobody had any actual issues as far as I know.

I asked TelkomZA, he said they are not aware of any agents doing this in that area, so I would very much view this as a scam, even though I desperately want VDSL. TelkomZA also said that to get VDSL means they need to dig up the road to put in new something or other, can't really remember if it was new cable or fibre or what, but the end result was that we would not be getting VDSL anytime soon.

All that said, if there is even a whiff of VDSL possibility, I would sign up immediately, but they really need to bring some proof to the party.

I know in Royal Ascot past The Met you can get VDSL. just us poor schmucks near the entrance get unstable ADSL.

Yeah. Better safe than sorry. A very odd time for a Telkom rep to do house calls. I wonder what the plan was, though. What if I'd gone out to meet the dude?

To be fair, my line has been pretty stable. Haven't been here that long though.
