Conclusion: Is the RTX 2080 Worth It?

No -- not yet.
The card is fine, and what nVidia is trying to do is commendable and, we think, an eventual future for gaming technology. That does not mean that it's worth the price at present, however. The RTX 2080 is poor value today. NVidia's own GTX 1080 Ti offers superior value at $150 less, in some cases, or $100 less on average. The cards perform equivalently, and yet the 1080 Ti is cheaper and still readily available (and with better models, too).

Seems benchmarking results are quite poor. Not much on the ray tracing front just yet.

The Palit card is worse/about the same as the founders edition for a lot of benchmarks, specs wise it's just got an extra 15MHz boost overclock, which it probably can't hold properly.
Why would you not rather pick e.g. the EVGA 1080 Ti SC and save a thousand? I think the EVGA card should even be within a few percent faster, depending on OC, desired DB, the specific game, etc..

Yeah, in general the RTX2080's performance numbers aren't great at all. A good 1080Ti will beat the 2080.

Looking at the reviews so far it seems that getting a 1080 or 1070 ti as an upgrade for my GTX 970 would be the better option.

I game on an ultrawide and the 2080 consistently beats the 1080 ti on 3840x1440 resolutions. Plus the 2080 is more future safe with both raytracing and DLSS. And the biggest advantage for me is the addition of a VirtualLink port.

Those features are easily worth the extra R1000.

Hell, the VirtualLink port alone is worth the extra R1000.

No it doesn't... and when it does, there is a 1 or 2 fps difference.

I am planning on jumping from my 3570k + 970 GTX on the release the next gen (3000 series?). Once the next gen is floating about there will be better support for this tech that Nvidia is pushing. Right now its just... meh.

Do you guys think the prices of older NVidia Cards will now start to drop here in SA? I'm looking to upgrade my desktop PC and wanted to do this next month or November during black friday.

But sorry, I see I wrote 3840. It's 3440x1440 which is the resolution of my ultrawide. And the 2080 beats the 1080 ti consistently.

None of the pictures that you posted are for the ultrawide resolution.

That is probably the FE edition, not the partner cards. The FE is consistently worse than the partner cards, running louder/hotter and throttling earlier. The new 2000's series FE cards have a lot better cooling design than the last FE one. It's what I find bad about the anandtech review.

Also, how did they score 102fps on ultra for 1440p ultra wide? Most sites say average around 60-80fps, that is quite an outlier.

For brand new? Don't really think so, second hand already has it mostly factored in, with market having quite a few due to crypto drop.

Don't buy the Rtx series, It has mechanisms problems and likely to be recalled

Its expensive. At this point,I'm thinking of going back to the console bandwagon

I think you're making the issue out to be bigger than it actually is.

Digital Trends reported last week that early RTX 2080 Ti adopters were facing die-off issues.

Talking to all of our board partner contacts off-record, none of them have reported higher RMA requests than normally. We trust our contacts on these and spoke with nearly everyone in the market. The most common RMA reasons haven’t changed from previous generations, and actual RMA rate is exceptionally low right now. Some board partners are at under 0.01%, which is just because these devices are so new that no one has even had a chance to encounter serious problems yet.

The problem seems to me somewhat concentrated to FE RTX 2080 Ti models, but there have been users with Gigabyte and ASUS cards who have come forward with similar issues.

Speaking with two of our SI contacts, we heard similar responses: Neither company has seen abnormal RMAs for these devices.
