NZ management weren't trying to stop the game at all. They were called on the pitch because Mealamu was on the pitch but not on the signed team sheet...

And still we lost to the AB's twice. A team is more than individuals.

But what does where they play club rugby have to do with it? What difference would that have made?

Although, the ABs don't allow foreign based players...

No, Coles was on the Pitch while Mealamu was on the sheet. Mealamu wasn't in the playing squad at all.

Ok thanks that clears it up then. The tv we were watching in the bar broke down at that exact time so we had to glance at the big screen. Someone gave me that explanation when we asked what's up?

IMO it is time to revisit our decision to play foreign based players. If you want to play for SA you must be playing in SA.

Don't agree with this. As OrbitalDawn said, two of our best players were foreign based. We live in a globalised world now - players should be able to ply their trade wherever they choose. If they good enough, they should be picked. I fail to see how being locally based will benefit the Bokke. Indeed, perhaps the Bokke could learn a thing or two from the Northerners and incorporate it into the Bok setup.

It's all pretty obvious though isn't it?! We dumb rugby player. Do so much brilliant work then make a fundamental error which undoes all the good work.

Juandre for me was a huge disappointment tonight. His control of the kick offs was tardy and he was nowhere in the lineouts. Those are fundamentals for a lock. In the tight he hasn't the physical presents to make an impact so tonight he was virtually a passenger in this team and it's a pity cause he is a good player but doesn't stamp his authority on proceedings.

I don't get all the animosity towards Morne Steyn either. Yes he hasn't asserted himself but neither has any other 10 in SA rugby. Sad when we pick Lambie, not because he is worthy but because Morne is playing so poorly. Compare that to NZ who have Carter>Cruden>Barrett>Slade!!! Their depth is ridiculous!!

JJ and Zane had reasonable games too! Again, I'm not sure what people expect but if they not the right men for the job who is? Again, it's not like we have players playing out of their boots being unfairly left out of the team and/or squad. These are our best players, period..

Anyway, crucial mistakes at inopportune times cost us dearly. Juandre's inability to secure the kick off after we had just scored a try, Zane putting one directly into touch, both errors cost us 7 points!!! You can't make mistakes like that against a team as composed and competent as NZ and what a brilliant team?!

Ellis Park is an incredibly difficult place to come and win against the Boks. There's the altitude to contend with, the hostile environment that is the Ellis Park precinct, the hostile crowd. A lot of these AB's have never experienced test rugby at Ellis Park before but they were bloody brilliant, irritatingly good, such resolute defense. Where they needed 4 or 5 phases to break down our defense we needed 15 or 16 phases or not at all. They destroyed our rolling maul from the lineouts and when Strauss and Coenie came on they destroyed our scrums and lineouts. Hell, even early on the Boks seemed troubled at lineout time, Eben left to do all the heavy lifting with Juandre nowhere to be seen.

And Eben was massive again!! That gallop down the left wing and his hand off of the seasons premier right wing Ben Smith had me jizzing all over the sofa!

I think we were beaten at the breakdowns too, Kieran is in a class of his own and Liam Messam was my man of the match. Richie was there or there abouts. Losing Willem didn't help but they had the measure of us in the loose and then some.

Nigel Owens had a brilliant game!!!! We had the one man advantage for 20 minutes of the match and still NZ put 38 past us at Ellis Park!! This is why we love, respect, idolize and put NZ rugby on a pedestal. It's because they've earned the accolades and deserve the admiration and adulation, period...

Well summed up..

Thanks, did not expect any different from you, we were outclassed but I am so thrilled as it was so close but alas not to be and errors cost us in the end. . I never thought that the AB would come back after the last try, chucks all we had to do was defend ... but that kick in touch and subsequent AB try...sigh..... you could see thereafter the boks sort of lost interest or was just shell shocked and then a comedy of errors emerged costing us more dearly.

We Just don't have the same skill levels as the AB's or technical prowess or physical conditioning or street cred. Man, they just such a quality side and they have the depth to boot!! We continue to play catchup.

That's for sure, must say this was the first game in a long time against the AB that took away any doubt. The ref was a class above the rest.

+1

Awesome game, good reffing. We can beat them, but our defense needs work. Can't wait for RWC2015... Going to be a cracker...and World Cup no.3 for the Boks... :)
