Is it the press or has Eugene lost the plot?

The week before the newspapers were full of how the Lions were going to stand up to the Bulls if there was any off the ball stuff. Last week it was how a reception was being planned for Cockett.

So either the press sportswriters are stupid or the Lions are trying to be tough guys. Perhaps if they thought about playing rugby they may get somewhere.

Yes. The ball should do the talking, not them.

Surely there is something really wrong at the Lions. Even though I am first and foremost a Sharks fan, I've always supported the Lions as my second team and to see what they have become is shocking. Either fire all the players (bar one or two) or Loffie has to go ... something just has to happen soon.

JHB sport has taken a huge dive. The Lions pride themselves on their pride, but they are more of a joke than ever before.
And now they're going overseas.:mad::mad::mad:

The Lions are getting better guys. Give them some slack here. Building a team from scratch is going to take a few seasons. The Lions need a few tweaks here and there - and a bit of confidence will do wonders (nothing like a win to pick the guys up). Now is not the time to discard this team. I believe this Lions team is going to hit their stride in the CC and will be a far better outfit in the 2009 S14. The Lions do need to buy in some depth during 2008 - and hold on to the good players however. A team cannot be a contender for the S14 crown without depth in all positions. Much also depends on where we will stand with Andre Pretorius. He will probably head for Europe soon - meaning the Lions will have to get a proper replacement. I do believe the Lions will get it right within the next 12 months - and then the faithful will rejoice.

Die Leeus speel nie soos 'n span wat enigsins iets kan doen met die bal nie. Ek dink daai Blues wedstryd het die wind lelik uit hulle seile gehaal.

And still no beacon… well…sort of… A draw for me is like losing…..

There are no words to describe it when you lose or draw a match with 47 seconds to go. It was heartbreaking, as could be seen on the faces and body language of the players in the cloakroom after the match.

Well a few positives… we have turned the corner, with times we played brilliant rugby… there is progress…

Negatives… bad tactical kicking, lack of finishing.. Missed 1st time tackles cost us the game.

Doing retrospection of the competition so far, the reality is that we only got beaten by one team – the Blues. The rest we lost against ourselves, and that all because of a lack of concentration, lack of experience, simple and bad mistakes and attitude.

As I have been saying, all is not lost, we will fight every battle to the end, and give it our best. We are not going on a paid holiday, but on a hard tour with a mission to do well and grow as a team. We have clear goals and want to achieve them I am getting just as impatient as all our supporters, and want those big wins and the magic to come.

We must remember this is year 2 of the 3 year plan. I still believe we are ahead of time and it is only a matter of time and we will be that awesome team, that will be respected in our country and in the world.. That is my vision and dream, and I have committed myself to mostly our supporters, the players, the sponsors and the Union, come the end of my term/contract 31 Oct 2009… we will be there!!!

To all our loyal supporters… thanks for your belief, support but mostly your friendship. We are going through tough times together, but we are going to have the glory together as well. I will be in touch from abroad.

Regards

Loffie must be patted on the back for nurturing and developing young talent. What I wonder about is what happened to all the money the Lions used to have. In my younger days they used to regularly poach talent from my home town (Cape Town). I can remember when the Du Plessis brothers etc. went to play for then Transvaal. You need to have some old hands amongst the youngsters. If you can hang onto the youngsters for a few years (without the Sharks poaching them!) you will have some team.

The money went when Louis Luyt went.

Ask Brian Van Rooyen. When he took over from Louis Luyt the GLRU was the richest rugby union in the world ... but when he later got promoted to SAR(F)U the GLRU was in trouble. I heard that huge amounts of money was invested - and lost - in Australia.

I think we also lost a lot of money when our investments weren't cashed out when the Rand was at it's weakest (R12 for a dollar).

Anyway, I've uploaded the Rayno Benjamin try for download on my site today, enjoy!

So waar.
Rugby is baie meer tegnies, maar ek kry dit nou nog nie klein dat rugby iemand se beroep is nie..... ??????
