I will be supporting the lions this weekend because if they win my team has a chance to go through to the play offs

The Boks happened. So depressing seeing them playing cc when they should be running out against NZ tomorrow morning.

Lions are a well coached unit and have had a super season but let's not kid ourselves. Their only Bok contribution, a very tired Butch James.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union turned down an offer to host all their future Currie Cup and Super Rugby matches at the FNB Satdium (Soccer City) and will remain at Coca-Cola Park.

After lengthy discussions between Stadium Management South Africa (“SMSA”) and the Golden Lions Rugby Union (“the Lions”) to host all future Lions rugby matches at the Soccer City Complex and its main stadium, the FNB Stadium, it has been decided by the Lions not to accept the final offer by SMSA.
“We were informed by the Lions that discussions between us have concluded and that our offer was not acceptable to the Lions and that Coca -Cola Park will remain the home of the Lions. We are hugely disappointed that the Lions turned down our offer to host its Currie Cup and Super Rugby home fixtures at the Soccer City Complex”, said Jacques Grobbelaar Chief Executive of SMSA. “We have noted the expertise employed by the Lions in assessing the possibility of the Lions relocating to the Soccer City Complex and SMSA understand and respect the reasoning behind the decision made.“

President of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, Mr.Kevin de Klerk says “Coca-Cola Park will remain the home of the MTN Golden Lions. We must now focus on rugby and build on our strong Currie Cup season. We have fantastic rugby matches coming to Coca-Cola Park and look forward to seeing the home of the MTN Golden Lions packed to capacity on a regular basis.” He added that “the Lions will pursue any reservations about the stadium’s locality and will continue to provide a friendly, pleasing environment as has been done over the past few years.”

This for me is a very disappointing decision. I for one love going to FNB stadium and would gladly do so regularly if the Lions were playing there. Ellis Park and the surrounding neighbourhood is hideous.

Yeah. Like I said on the FB page. Once you are inside the stadium it is great, but to get there and to not worry about your belongings while at the game is a whole different story. On the Joburg Satdium side it is alright but on all the other sides of the stadium it is extremely stressful.

I have mixed emotions about this. I was very much in favour of a move to FNB Stadium but I do understand why this decision was taken... lots of sentimental value. Lions die-hard fans love EP. A new generation prefers FNB. The old guard won the battle for the heart of the Lions/GLRU. I believe this decision is not the best for the Lions in the long run unless the GLRU and City of Joburg can sort the area out (which was partly done for 2010 but the momentum not maintained and further developed).

province always plays well on the highveld. province to win by 7-10 points

Come again, you read up on the stats come CC, the last time Province won in Coke Tin was way back in 2005. But then again, I presume it's all about beauty in the Province camp than actually playing some rugga..;)

I would love to go to the final, but I hear that the cost might be prohibitively expensive. Anyone know the prices?
