All our crap started with our scrum. It has been a problem for most of the year and the time has come to do something about it (and no Os cannot come back from retirement [again]).

Imho, it's to do with John Smit and "the Beast" being too nice. They play within the rules. And if the ref happens to allows the opposition to scrum illegally, which happened again last night. They just grin and bear it, whereas other teams adopt the approach if they scrum skew we do it too.

My perception of the game:
1. Our scrum was seriously outmaneuvered. I don't think that the French were scrumming completely legally, but the boks were giving up penalties.
2. Our decision-making behind the scrum was poor. Du Preez is a fantastic scrumhalf behind an advancing forward pack, but last night he looked mediocre.
3. We have no imagination in the midfield. We were completely predictable: short pass, crash into tackle and lose the ball. Only once did we try anything different, and that time they saw Habana coming from a mile off and chopped him down.
4. Morne Steyn had a nightmare. But to be fair he was only symptom of a much bigger problem. The whole team (with the exception of Brussouw - wow, what a player) didn't look sharp.

can't fault him for trying to get the penalty .... the French player sidestepped the ball, shyte happens.

Of course you can fault him, that was extremely stupid. You don't try something like that on your own 5m line, when there are no bok players around. I understand it's hard for you to believe Sharks players can mess up, but it's the truth.

I really wish Wian du Preez had gotten a chance. I'm guessing he'll play against Saracens now at least.

Don't think we can blame the ref much. We were terrible and were lucky to only lose by 7 points. If we didn't have Brussouw there we would've been thumped. Can you believe that he wasn't originally selected?! Just so many average performances I'm not even going to bother pointing them out.

This game is even more embarrassing then the Leicester one imo. Least we had excuses for that game.

Nha the ref was ****, but not by any means the sole sinker of the SS BOKTROP.

So where's the Steyn fans now eh ...... I seem to recall someone else being crucified for a much less worse game than what dingleberry had tonight  And as for Kirchner .... well, I called it. Hands up who remembers anything worthwhile tonight.

Only guys that really really pitched up tonight were Smit, Brussouw and Bakkies .......

Kirchner was steady. Please show me where he made such a big balls up...

I have been avoiding making too much mention of Steyn's performance myself but it is being discussed by everyone else so I thought I would post this.

The only other mentions of him that I have not quoted are the drop kick, the penalty and the conversion he got. The rest does not sound very impressive at all.

So 5 mistakes of which one is a missed penalty? This is the best you have to crusify Steyn.... ROFL:D

Steyn did make a blunder or two, he did not have a great game by any leap of the imagination but he was hardly the sole cause of the loss.

IMO
1) The ref was a little one sided. It was not enough to swing the game by itself but he missed a couple of French mistakes yet looked very capable to punish us time and again.
2) Our Scrums, lets face it is a weak point atm. We must fix this. If you struggle to go forward with someone like bakkies behind you you are doing something wrong.
3) We did not look like we ever had any rhythm on the attack.
4) Yes we did kick a too much last night.
5) Jacobs needs to go. NOW.

I shall have to watch a re-broadcast of the game at some-time.
But, now I know that we lost, so it's all kinda sucky.

YES! typical of you to select 5 minutes out of 80 minutes play to slate M. Steyn. Your next quote would be that RP would have done better. Just funny that PDV did not even think so. We see right through you again man. :D

It's great to see provincialism is still alive and well in this country! ;).

Tbh, this whole forum is filled with provicialists. It's sickening. I've had a Provence supporter tell me he lol'ed hard when Chabel creamed Steyn. WTF.

@ provincialist:

You're going to crusify M Steyn for a bad game after the season he had? After aallllll those points he secured to make YOU celebebrate YOUR "so called" game and one of OUR greatest seasons? You don't ****ing deserve to call youself a springbok supporter if you act like the complete ****tard you are.

Bull hatered is alive and well....look at all these so called rugby supporters who like to drop the only team in SA that wins S14's, from the S14

****ing weird ain't it?

Don't bother, seriously!!! Not worth watching!! The highlights/lowlights were the defecation of our national anthem by some homeless yob the French thought worthy and the little boy who fell over kicking the ball before the game kicked off (and I'm not referring to Morne Steyn).

Man of the match, once again went to the referee, in this case Wayne Barns...

I agree - it was just plain dumb. A problem that I have with Pietersen is that he seems scared of contact. Go back and look at a few games - sure he runs up and puts the pressure on but he doesn't seem to get close to putting in a tackle. Maybe the tactic is to force the receiver to kick, or hope for a knock on, but I think if you cream the receiver every time he is more likely to mess up.

BTW - I am a Sharks supporter and they can mess up big time - look at the Currie Cup Semis.

One word - Fatigue.

If our boys were fresh things would have been very different.

What is Kankowski's excuse?

I saw that Burger had lost it during the Anthem. The other guys had their eyes shut and were belting out the anthem in spite of the dope fiend. Burger was very much WTF?!
