Even inverters+batteries are noisy... Fanless ones? Or is that just a big UPS?
inverters + battery are basically quiet 95% of the time.

My Victron or Sunsynk only really have some fan noise when its either hot hot hot, or I'm cranking up the kw usage for something major in the house (industrial saws, builders pulling 5kw on their shitty equipment etc)

I need one of these .. but at 0db please.. sigh
I have an outside toilet i use as a generator room. so very little noise. I Am sure you can even cover the walls with sound proofing and will be whisper silent

With lithium you're looking at 5 years minimum, even if you cycle it daily. If not it'll be even longer.

Also lead acid can only be discharged up to 50%. Lithium can be discharged until empty...
battery packs in tools are mostly lithium nowdays and they certainly dont last 5 years .18 months to 24 months usually .the real truth on lithium batteries is still out there .i think many people are going to be very annoyed with their prized chinese battery packs .

NMC vs LFP.

I also think most people abuse those tool batteries until they completely die and then don’t bother recharging them immediately. If they followed the keep it between 20-80% rule, they should last a lot longer but there is no way afaik to measure SOC.

most tools use 18650 cells standard lithium ion .one cell will allways fail prematurely same as laptop batteries
many people are going to be in shock when their beloved inverter battery dies at 6 years and they claim ,only to find out ....sorry you ran the battery at over 25deg c for extended periods ...oooops what then

the protection on tool batteries is hectic good .over current.undervoltage and heat .some are so aggressive its ridiculous but it protects the product especially Ryobi

Yes, aren't those 18650 cells NMC? 800 cycle life? Also a lot of cheap chinese crap quality 18650's out there. I bet if they had LG/Panasonic/Samsung 18650's in those tool batteries they would last a lot longer.

Thanks @mylesillidge / @Jan for the tests. Could you do one for Stage 6?
a customer just replaced his 12 marine deep cycle batteries at 8 years .we had 4 days zero power over winter .they have performed as expected with a 5kw inverter .he is replacing them with 30 deep cycle batteries and an 8kw inverter as well as putting up 12 of 500 something watt solar panels .he estimates because of the capacity he has now they will last at least 10 years .cost was R100k for batteries alone and installation .you get 2 if youre lucky lithiums for that price .

interestingly enough the samsungs are the cells of choice for many tool manufacturers .purple in colour

I really hope this inspires Myles to do an updated report on Stage 6 :p:p:p

i honestly think batteries will still get a lot better and to invest huge amounts now may not be worthwhile .li technology is still to he replaced by something better im sure .but at the moment for many its about survival .also its all about turnover at the moment stuff the 540 pages of terms and conditions ,just give me that battery mate .when did you ever read your cellphone contract thoroughly ? you just want your new toy and to get out of there .
