WASHINGTON — American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan — including targeting American troops — amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The United States concluded months ago that the Russian unit, which has been linked to assassination attempts and other covert operations in Europe intended to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year.

Islamist militants, or armed criminal elements closely associated with them, are believed to have collected some bounty money, the officials said. Twenty Americans were killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2019, but it was not clear which killings were under suspicion.

Trump Denies Briefing On Russian Bounties Reportedly Placed On U.S. Troops

In a tweet late Sunday night, President Trump said the intelligence community told him he was not briefed about allegations Russia had offered the Taliban bounty payments to kill Western forces — including U.S. troops — because it did not find the reports credible.

"Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or @VP. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News @nytimesbooks, wanting to make Republicans look bad!!!", the president tweeted.

The tweet reaffirmed an earlier denial by the president of a New York Times report that intelligence officials had briefed him on the allegations of malign Russian activity in Afghanistan.

Everything Trump does. Everything Trump says. Is simply acting in favour of a cabal of oligarchs. Trump and Putin are most definitely in league in this regard.
Don't get confused by other apparent objectives. Even Trump's approach to China is first and foremost centred around energy - i.e. making sure as much US and Russian oil is used for energy as possible.

Well who knows - I may be wrong. But this basic assumption has allowed me to explain, and sometimes predict just about everything Trump has done and said during his presidency.

there's no problem, this is how these things work and both sides, and many other countries, do it all. the. time.

but it is convenient for the NYT to write an article about it anyway because according to the idiots who created the fake agenda:
- Russia = bad
- Trump = Russia, so Trump = bad
- rather vote for the deranged hair sniffing pedophile

no other reason to publish something so insignificant

The problem is that it seems the guy who took an oath to defend the US, has done nothing about this and instead of rebuking Russia for it, has pushed for favourable concessions for Russia.

The US did the same with the Mujahadeen back in the 80's. They offered bounties for Russian troops.

UK security services have confirmed this story as well.

I think it brings up the question that if Trump did not see this intelligence, why is the CIA so concerned about showing him critical information like this? It is standard practice for the daily briefings to provide updates on casualties in Afghanistan and intel like this is significant.

Trump does things for economic stability and growth as well as the principle of the matter, not to deceitfully and unprincipledly winning elections.
You're only right about economic growth lol. Only because Trump seems to measure the success of his presidency on the stock market and jobs numbers. That's why he was so opposed to COVID lock downs, they messed up his indice readings. The rest, dead wrong.

The US intelligence agencies say it is fake news.

so what was the reward for killing a Soldier?
a Free Goat for a Private, and a beat up Hilux for blowing up a Apache?

Saddam Hussein at the time had much more generous rewards for killing US troops.

''Evidence'' seems to be spies and commandos on the ground finding large stashes of US dollars in Taliban compounds. Of course that could just be opium money or whatever else.
