Inviting the US to liberate South Africa and bring us democracy at 21 freedoms per second.
A pronouncement by Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang that South Africa must be prepared - from a military point of view - for a possible invasion by the United States has been branded as "totally irresponsible" by Afrikaner Eenheidsbeweging leader Cassie Aucamp.
He was reacting to a report in a British newspaper on Tuesday that quotes her as saying: "Look at what Bush is doing. He could invade." Tshabalala reportedly made the statement during a recent interview with the Guardian, which was quizzing her on the availability of drugs to fight Aids.
She told the Guardian that budgetary priorities meant her department could not provide anti-retrovirals to the estimated 4,5 million South Africans with HIV."We don't have the money for that. Where would it come from?" the newspaper quoted her as saying.Asked if it could come from defence savings, if three proposed submarines were left out of South Africa's arms deal, the minister said the country needed to deter aggressors.
"South Africa cannot afford drugs to fight HIV and Aids partly because it needs submarines to deter attacks from nations such as the US," the Guardian quotes Tshabalala-Msimang as saying.

WATCH: Russia lands two nuclear-capable bombers in SA
The flight comes amid a push by Moscow for influence on the African continent.www.enca.com
You bet your ass they aren't carrying laws around..
Recently found this out myself, but it's actually ordnance.
I don't see any point to them stationing any aircraft here if it's not going to carry any live ordnance.
If "it kicks off", what they going to do? Fly byes to beat them into submission?
Use of Airbases / Logistics / Ground SupportFrom the article: "two Tupolev Tu-160 bombers were being sent to South Africa on a first-ever flight to develop bilateral military cooperation."
Now what on earth could that be? Why would SA Airforce need to train alongside a Russian bomber? What scenario would that cover? By the way to the guys here in the know: do we even have bombers in our airforce?

How to shoot down a B52
Linebacker: The Untold Story of the Air Raids over North Vietnam
B52 LONG past sell by date ..........
The USAF continues to rely on the B-52 because it remains an effective and economical heavy bomber in the absence of sophisticated air defenses, particularly in the type of missions that have been conducted since the end of the Cold War against nations with limited defensive capabilities. The B-52 has also continued in service because there has been no reliable replacement. The B-52 has the capacity to "loiter" for extended periods, and can deliver precision standoff and direct fire munitions from a distance, in addition to direct bombing. It has been a valuable asset in supporting ground operations during conflicts such as Operation Iraqi Freedom. The B-52 had the highest mission capable rate of the three types of heavy bombers operated by the USAF in the 2000–2001 period. The B-1 averaged a 53.7% ready rate, the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit achieved 30.3%, while the B-52 averaged 80.5%.The B-52's $72,000 cost per hour of flight is more than the B-1B's $63,000 cost per hour, but less than the B-2's $135,000 per hour.
The US have a permanent base in Djibouti.Nope
RUSSIA is moving closer to [Sub-Saharan ] Africa
WHY one needs overseas bases
As part of the build-up for Linebacker I, Strategic Air Command (SAC) launched Operation Bullet Shot, which sent 124 more B-52s from bases in the U.S. to Guam; bringing the total B-52 strength available for operations in Southeast Asia to 207. One hundred fifty three B-52s were at Andersen AFB (55 B-52Ds and 98 B-52Gs) and another 54 B-52Ds were based at U-Tapao, Thailand. Over 12,000 airmen on Guam were packed into the dorms, with spill-overs residing in temporary steel dorms called Tin City. Canvas Courts, a collection of tent shelters and available off base hotels, and even the base gymnasium were converted to living quarters to house all of the Airmen. The last time there were this many bombers and Airmen on Guam was 1945, for World War II air operations against Japan.
Linebacker II Andersen Air Force Base
How many STRATEGIC bomber bases does the US have in Africa -- Southern Africa ?
in the absence of sophisticated air defensesLol
It has been refitted and upgraded. It provides an unrivaled platform of weapons delivery, outside of the USAF. The Russians and Chinese have nothing that competes on these terms.
SO DO the Chinese !The US have a permanent base in Djibouti.
They also have a base at Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean.
THAT is why they HAD TO make use of GUAM !With air to air refueling, the US can strike pretty much anywhere.
I am missing a link for your long excerpt ( cut and paste )It has been refitted and upgraded. It provides an unrivaled platform of weapons delivery, outside of the USAF. The Russians and Chinese have nothing that competes on these terms.
IF you are useful the Russians give you all the stuff -- for "FREE"I am more concern there is going to be another bs armsdeal scandel down the road again.
Interesting comrad. Tell me more how I can get a Kamov helicopter.IF you are useful the Russians give you all the stuff -- for "FREE"
Maybe they are visiting SAAT?They usually do. I suspect their aircraft fly on a wing and a prayer given the quality of maintenance in the Russian airforce
