Many pro Putin say there is no alternative, convenient when people like Nemtsov with clear alternative are sidelined by the Russian MSM and no longer with us. Imagine if DA and other opposition leaders were assassinated?

So you saying we should've skipped Mandela and went straight to Zuma? Lots of people also thought he was the thug we needed, and now our country's broken.
 lol! that comparison fails on so many levels

The last thing Russia needs or requires is someone who is going to kowtow to the West and western pressure, so until someone else emerges, Putin remains the best leader for Russia whether we like it or not.

Everyone understands this. The fact that there isn't someone that can take over from Putin that also understand this is problematic. Life long dictators are never good.

I still fail to see how South Africans of all idiot groups of people feel they have the moral high ground over either the American or Russian leaderships.....

Russia has never had a stable pure democracy though..... even after the Tzars they always have had and always will have dictators.... it's simply their nature.

Power corrupts(that's just the human condition), even more so with dictators or elected officials. Maybe less with someone born into it like a king. So the way to manage that is reasonable term limits, limiting the power and keeping it as localised as possible.

A good king or dictator can be great if you are lucky enough to get a good one. A bad one is terrible. The problem that often occurs with good kings throughout history is that they just can't find someone as good as themselves to succeed them. A lack of proper succession planning is also bad as it leaves a power vacuum once the good king dies.

Putin is getting old. He should hand over to someone competent while he is still able to, and I suspect thats what he is doing.

Who is taking the high ground? We know our leaders are sh*te, doesn't mean we can't criticize other horrible leaders when we see them...
