Wow, imagine if bullies waited until their victims were grown up and strong enough to defend themselves, that would be so unfair to the bully!! That is why the bully is morally obligated to pick on the young and defenseless.

Give cancer a chance to grow. Don't be a bully towards young cancer!

So you mean Russia shouldn't have been allowed to grow from Yeltzin era ashes to what it is today?

NATO tried it's luck from that time, they thought Russia would not push back. Usurped agreements and inciting coups, after all Russia was weak right?

I still struggle to understand the 'Z', 'V' and the lesser used 'O' symbol. I can under it being used to mark groupings, but the Russians took it to a whole next level. What meaning does those symbols have in Russia in any case?

In my view, it is stupid PR.

The Russian fascist nationalists have been very supportive of Putin up to recent times. They proudly proclaimed themselves emissaries of the Kremlin in Crimea. Were eager for any affirmation that their violent tendencies and fanaticism in the Donbass is just what Russia needs.
The only reason they would criticise now, is because any failure by Russia goes against their convictions, and is likely highly embarrassing for them. For how would a Russian supremacist reconcile with the notion of this mountain of fail that has occurred?
Putin's likely perspective: Useful tools -> Personal security risk
