In all honesty, Russian military hasn't regressed at all... Up until now they've only ever "fought" against a much weaker opponent so the weaknesses inherent in their military didn't show.

I still struggle to understand the 'Z', 'V' and the lesser used 'O' symbol. I can under it being used to mark groupings, but the Russians took it to a whole next level. What meaning does those symbols have in Russia in any case?

In my view, it is stupid PR.

The past few weeks, Putin has been focussing a lot on reasons for a full nuclear attack on the West. I suspect these are no longer threats and that Nuclear attacks on one or more Western countries are becoming imminent.

Yes, every country with nukes has this threat. It is called Mutual Assured Destruction. Go re-read the contract.

True for almost any country on Earth. All have systems of equality and yet have very different plans which often contract those values. Nothing new there Putin.

Every country has threats to it's border. No-one is excluded. Currently you are that threat.
