Now, clearly — and I’ve talked about this many times — they have not — they have not overcome struggles and challenges with respect to command and control, logistics and sustainment, unit cohesion, integration of air and ground. I mean, they — they have met with many problems of their own making in Ukraine. There’s no question about that. But it’s still a very large and very powerful military. And Mr. Putin still has an awful lot of military capacity left at his disposal, not just to be used in Ukraine, but potentially elsewhere.

It was mentioned a while back that Putin has been increasingly sidelining his military and taken a more active role and plans in Russia's invasion, this took place before the latest Ukraine offensive which means the latest setbacks for the invaders happened under his watch. Previous senior military have been fired and arrested for the same.

I disagree. I think Putin has very real issues in manpower and equipment now.
Why else would he be begging for equipment and fighting men from idiots.
Why would he be blanket conscripting from captured areas and prisons... The worst kind of conscript you can have.

The reserve force he put together was smaller than expected and routed in days.
50K+ Dead so far means in excess of 250K in total that are killed/prisoner/wounded. 2 years worth of intake.
Also you cannot just replace with new intake. Leadership/officers take time to train. Modern equipment takes time to train.

To do this properly he actually has to make this a "war" and that creates @home problems for him.

I think Kirby was refering to Russia's navy (which is still mostly intact) and it's airforce (which is a little less intact). It's army is f*cked. Russia won't be able to make any territorial gains, but it can still project power with its nuclear, sea and air forces.
