Russia defence ministry says frigate tests strike capabilities in Atlantic

The Russian Defence Ministry says that the Admiral Gorshkov tested strike capabilities in the western Atlantic Ocean.
A still image from video released by the Russian Defence Ministry shows what it said to be frigate 'Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov' during an exercise in the Atlantic Ocean, in an image taken from video released January 25, 2023.

In a statement seen by Reuters, the ministry said the frigate had run a computer simulation on hypersonic Zircon missiles.
Zircon missiles have a range of 900 km (560 miles), and can travel at several times the speed of sound, making it difficult to defend against them. The statement did not say the frigate had launched a missile.

Were they scared they'd miss the Atlantic ocean?

I don't get the irrational fear and hate of Putin. But whatever. The Russians in eastern Ukraine who was about to be whipped out by Nazis probably feel differently.
Irrational?

People who have publicly criticized him have died.
He ordered the invasion of Ukraine, which has killed 30 000 civilians.
He ordered the annexation of territory, thereby colonising sections of a sovereign state.
Any Russian who speaks out against the war, is arrested.

Plenty of rational reasons why nation states are wary of him.

Russia has begun mobilising Ukrainian men who had previously been deported from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Source: Luhansk Oblast Military Administration on Telegram

Quote: "Men, deported from temporarily occupied territories, are being mobilised on the territory of the Russian Federation. This is one of the reasons why the Russian government decided to issue passports at their place of residence."

Details: The Russians also continue to recruit convicted Ukrainian citizens who were forcibly taken to Russian prisons.

In particular, such prisoners are being actively recruited to the Wagner Group private military company in Krasnodar (Russia).

According to the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, people who are serving sentences for serious crimes are actively urged to take part in the war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the oblast's second largest indoor sports arena [the largest one was Luhansk-based Ice Palace of Sports, destroyed by the invaders] is overflowed with wounded Russians. They are currently trying to save more than 600 of their fighters there.

The Russians also have certain problems with leaders in many settlements in the temporarily occupied territories.

According to the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, the invaders gradually lose their trust for local collaborators, so they bring officials from Russia.

The Zircon has completed numerous tests, including its final range (1000km) test in the Barents Sea before entering serial production. A moment's reflection might indicate why the cost and provocation of firing hypersonic missiles in the freaking Atlantic might be a bad idea. Try clutching at better straws...

I strongly disagree. This conflict was escalated to full blown indiscriminate warfare in February already (by Russia). There have been no further escalations since then.

In fact the only escalation that's left above the current level is the use of weapons of mass destruction.

Furthermore, the only ones who have the ability to de-escalate are Russia.

//Yawn

That's not even propaganda. It's outright lies.
Yoh. The amount of brainwashing is too damn high.

You okes do know that being the most prolific on the internet does not equate to real world populace numbers opinion hey?

here is another take, different outlet.
Between 2008 and 2021, the US repeatedly signalled its hostile intent to Moscow, and how Ukraine might assist its aggressive posturing in the region

Yes, all reasons given are valid for not doing a real test. But also equally likely the operators are just terrified of the automatic homing function kicking in. Washing machine chips have circular motion hardwired into them.

Yeah, his motivations for that opinion piece are a bit suspect when he says things like the below...

That was the context for a coup/revolution in 2014 that overthrew a government in Kyiv elected to preserve ties with Moscow. Installed in its place was one that was openly anti-Russian. Washington’s fingerprints - disguised as “democracy promotion” - were all over the sudden change of government to one tightly aligned with US geostrategic goals in the region.

While Germany and France brokered the so-called Minsk accords, with Russia’s help, to stop the slaughter in the Donbas by promising the region greater autonomy, Washington looked to be incentivising the bloodshed.

It poured money and arms into Ukraine. It gave Ukraine’s ultra-nationalist forces training, and worked to integrate the Ukrainian military into Nato through what it termed “interoperability. In July 2021, as tensions heightened, the US held a joint naval exercise with Ukraine in the Black Sea, Operation Sea Breeze, that led to Russia firing warning shots at a British naval destroyer that entered Crimea’s territorial waters.

Weird how he doesn't mention all the arms and money that Russia poured into the region during the same period yet somehow it's only Washington that is to blame for the bloodshed.

It was then, after 14 years of US meddling on Russia’s borders, that Moscow sent in its soldiers - “unprovoked”

With the West resolved against peacemaking, and shipping in armaments as fast as they can be made, the outcome looks bleak: either a further grinding, bloody territorial division of Ukraine into pro-Russia and anti-Russia blocs through force of arms, or escalation to a nuclear confrontation.

Again, unsubstantiated - he once again blames the West for the lack of peace while not commenting on the ridiculousness of Russian demands.

You again 'start' your take on this saga on chapter 13.

The very basis of your perspective is skewed. Anything that follows is then off.

ie: You all post/argue from the bias / presumption that states are not equal. America, Britain, Israel etc enjoy this blanket of 'specialness'

If you accept that states have the same rights/equality of sovereignty, security, values (though they may differ), ie, What is good for the goose is good for the gander...then you must acknowledge how poor your position is.

Case in point: Cuban Missile crisis

If Zelensky was a 1/10th of the person media is shoving down our throats, he would have made the best, hard decisions for the security and safety of his people, not to appease his benefactors. What kind of corrupt callous **** knowingly allows this situation. And if he didn't know, then he is an idiot he shouldn't have been in the position.

Like I stated previously: He is an actor fulfilling a paid for role.

It'd be funny if you weren't wholy subscribing to the Kremlin nonsense. Which Russians in eastern Ukraine were about to be wiped out? How many civilians died in the Russian sponsored Donbas conflict compared to the current full Russian invasion? These are straight forward questions. You're welcome to quote both Tass and the other bottom of the swamp rag.
