The upgrade was in detecting and identifying offensive projectiles. No need for a hardware upgrade. The initial software was crap to start off with and likely couldn't identify a brick from a bird. From what I heard this was the focus after the first HIMAR's landed in Ukraine so it's been in dev for a while. Final field testing was completed and is being rolled out now.
The whole protection against HIMAR's is a bonus because the main part of the upgrade was actually aimed at drones and not HIMARs. Will be interesting to see if this can help against GLSDB's.
I'm very intrigued as to your connections that are getting info on software updates to specific military platforms.
