Nothing really secret about target identification and acquisition. Not like the thing is trying to identify what bird it is, just that there is a bird.
The so called software upgrades? Sounds like sensitive military information. Like I said the source for such stories? Are they the same Russian Telegram channels that give you vital updates such as the number of B-52's shot down?

Russia would have kept such info to themselves. This is intended to fool the general public into believing Russia has superior weapons.

Sounds about Russian Propaganda.

So Russia has the ability to protect itself against HIMARS, but only decides to protect structures in Moscow that are 1000's of kilometres outside the range of the nearest HIMARS system? Instead they leave their troops who are within range of the HIMARS completely undefended?

Excellent

Must be working - there's been no reports of HIMARS hitting Moscow

The upgrade was in detecting and identifying offensive projectiles. No need for a hardware upgrade.

You can do that just with software? Radar sensitivity also depends on the physical design and revolution speed of the aerial, that thing that turns. Software can only go so far.

The initial software was crap to start off with and likely couldn't identify a brick from a bird. From what I heard this was the focus after the first HIMAR's landed in Ukraine so it's been in dev for a while. Final field testing was completed and is being rolled out now.

Radar senses an object and determines the speed, direction and size. The possible interpretation is an algorithm. So how did they determine the algorithm of HIMARS if they couldn't determine the algorithm for a bird or brick previously?

More vapourware?

Yup, part of the upgrade. ;)

And before you say that would need a hardware upgrade, no it wouldn't. There are a lot of superfluous things that may be done that is not needed that would simply slow down a chunk of code.

Yes, it would. The rotational speed of the aerial would need to be increased if the speed of the projectile was too fast to be previously detected. Software can't do that.

How do you know so much about Russian radar upgrades?

Oh, I can tell you a story or two. Even about certain Western countries and their intelligence services that like to make use of some of our skills. But for now, you can either entertain yourself with my posts or not. Your call.

You seem to have insider knowledge about the engineering aspects of Russian weapon systems. Who are you speaking to?

+$100 Billion in aid
So much weapons from NATO
Now tanks, next Jets.
Ukraine steadily becoming more and more of a rubble site
100's of thousands dead, maimed

and the Cheerleaders for more weapons call it 'winning'

I notice you don't mention the amount of weaponry Russia has driven into Ukraine? Why not?

And the Western weaponry is less than 1% of their military budget.

The parameter of the target's flight acquired by the returns to the system identifies it with a possibility of being a bird dependent on the system algorithms. Birds are slow. HIMARS fast.

Looking at the rotational speed of the Pantsir (About 1 revolution for every 2 seconds), the Pantsir only acquires the target every 2 seconds. How far does a HIMARS travel in 3 seconds? No software upgrade is going to increase the acquisition rate. Only an increase in rotation rate will do that. And increasing the rotational rate requires the transmission lobes to be different, otherwise they detect nothing because the paint period has been decreased.

Hardware and software are specific to a radar system and the reason the type of radar can be determined by transmission intercepts (Band and rotational speed).

Fully agree. Russia won't leak stuff like that. If thats was the case Himar strikes would have been useless by November already and mass deployment of pantsir systems would have been observed in ukraine. More useful "secret" information would be how do defeat the lancet loitering drones. So far those drones have exceeded expectations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that to stop shelling of Belgorod Oblast is a "priority task", and also pointed out that the Russian Defence Ministry is responsible for this task to be fulfilled.

Source: Russian state-owned news outlet RIA Novosti

Quote: "The priority task is to eliminate the very possibility of shelling [Belgorod Oblast – ed.], but this is already a matter for the military department."

Detail: In addition, the president of the aggressor country called for "bringing the energy, heating and water supply facilities back to normal operation mode", as well as for restoring or compensating for the loss of civilians' property "quickly and effectively".

There is only so much you can do with 50yo tech, or even consumer grade electronics with 5% variance.

Come on guys.. The pantsir is now amazeballs with v0.002a7rc1 installed, it can now detect a himars and a drone from 1000kms away and down it with its on board .22 heavy gatling gun and its DU shells.

On paper the equipment should be able to detect and intercept HIMAR missiles so the train of thought was that there is software issue on some military threads.
