Freed Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout says he ‘wholeheartedly’ supports Ukraine war and would volunteer if he could

Freed Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout said on Saturday he “wholeheartedly” supports Moscow’s so-called “military operation” in Ukraine and that if he had the opportunity and necessary skills, he would “certainly go as a volunteer.”

If he could... sure.

South African MPs are suspicious of the country’s authorities to be selling weapons to Russia.

The Russian Lady R vessel, which according to the U.S. previously carried weapons for Russia, was spotted in a South African port this week.

It is noted that the Lady R container ship docked at the port of Simonstown near Cape Town on December 6.

Three days after that, according to eyewitnesses, an unknown cargo was placed on the ship.

At the same time, the work was carried out mainly at night, while armed people guarded the area around the vessel.

While Lady R was at Simonstown, she had the Automatic Identification System (AIS), which transmits the ship’s coordinates, disabled.

On December 9, the container ship went to sea. And it was only after that when the team turned on AIS.

According to Marine Traffic service, the ship is sailing from Cameroon to Istanbul. The ship should be at its destination on January 15.

South African Member of Parliament for the opposition Democratic Alliance Kobus Mare has made a written request to the country’s Minister of Defense, Thandi Modisi.

The parliamentarian demands to explain what the ship under sanctions was doing in the port of South Africa, and why its load was in secrecy.

According to Mare, it is “obvious” that Armscor, the weapons procurement agency of the South African Ministry of Defense, is connected to the situation. It was Armscor that contracted the drivers who carried the cargo.

The South African Ministry of Defense has not commented on the appearance of a Russian vessel in the country’s port. The National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC), which local arms suppliers approach for permissions, says it has no information about arms sales to Russia.

ODESSA PLUNGED INTO DARKNESS - WILL TAKE MONTHS TO FIX

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that more than 1.5 million people in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa and the surrounding region had no electricity, and he described the situation as very difficult.

“According to preliminary forecasts, it will take much more time to restore energy facilities in the Odesa region than after previous attacks,” the administration said.

“We are talking not about days, but even weeks and possibly even two to three months,” it said in a Facebook post.

So their electricity supply is finally worse than SA's. In one location at least. After how many months of war and even intentional missile bombardment from the Russian Federation.

I wonder who has been waging war on SA's electrical infrastructure. Because the damage seems to be just about as bad.

Nationalist blogger delivers rare criticism of Russian military, Putin

An influential nationalist Russian blogger has delivered rare criticism of the military top brass and President Vladimir Putin for their poor execution of the war in Ukraine.
Igor Girkin, a Russian leader of Ukrainian separatists who once claimed he “pulled the trigger” on the 2014-2015 Donbas war, made scathing comments on the Russian leadership in a 90-minute video after visiting the conflict zone.
The “fish’s head is completely rotten,” Girkin said on his popular Telegram channel, adding that the Russian military needed reform and take in competent people.
He said the mid-levels of the military were open about their dissatisfaction with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and even Putin. “It is not just me… people are not blind and deaf at all: people at the mid-level there do not even hide their views which, how do I put it, are not fully complimentary about the president or the defence minister,” Girkin added.

Russia ramping up production of ‘most powerful’ weapons: Medvedev

Russia’s former President Dmitry Medvedev has said the country is ramping up production of new-generation weapons to protect itself from enemies in Europe, the United States and Australia.
“We are increasing production of the most powerful means of destruction. Including those based on new principles,” Medvedev said on messaging app Telegram.
Medvedev, who serves as deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, did not provide details of the weapons.
Putin repeatedly said Russia has been developing new types of weapons, including hypersonic weapons that he boasts can circumvent all existing missile defence systems.
