His mind can't possibly be that far gone.
His military can barely cope with Ukraine & now the lunatic thinks he can take on nato - he can't possibly be considering that level of lunacy.
I doubt he is realistically thinking of nuking anybody. Likely just one of the various empty threats like the ones made previously. If Putin had to go down that road, and that is a very big and dangerous IF, then it would not be a NATO country but likely several tactical strikes with an eye to inflict major damage to key Ukrainian military units. I very much doubt even Putin would strike Kyiv due to the massive civilian casualties.

hope that is not, I don't know that is an empty threat or not, but I don't feel that will end well......

Agree completely. This would be the trigger moment for this whole thing to spiral out of control very quickly. Let's hope it's just empty threats to get people to the negotiating table.

Medvedev has been making these threats since the beginning of the war, perhaps to try and dissuade supply of weapons from the EU and the US.

Kyiv should accept new ‘realities’ before peace: Kremlin

Russia has dismissed a reported three-step peace proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying Kyiv needed to accept new “realities”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said progress would not be possible without considering these realities, including Russia’s capture of territories from Ukraine.
Peskov responded to a request by Zelenskyy to G7 countries on Monday for more military equipment, financial and energy stability support, and backing for a peace solution that would start with Russia withdrawing troops from Ukraine.
Russia has repeatedly said it is willing to hold peace talks but does not see Ukraine and the West as ready to negotiate.
These new realities include:

1. Russia being forced out of Ukraine.
2. Russia becoming a pariah country to the rest of the world.
3. The rest of the world realising that Russia was great when it was the USSR, but is getting drilled by a country far smaller in terms of arms and ammunition.

Only then will peace reign!

I like how Peskov dropped any pretense of Liberating and used captured, if it was accurately quoted.

I wonder if this is one of those times that Putin is bluffing but says he is not bluffing. I was under the impression that Russia would only use Nukes if there was an existential threat to Russia itself. But I heard a rumour that there is nothing stopping them from using nukes as a first strike option other than the Russians themselves have previously decided not to do this. I think now we are seeing them reverse this or at least musing to reverse this. Not sure how serious Putin and the boys really are. Seems Medvedev is pushing for it though but that is likely also just posturing.

According to Russian dissidents, Putin understands that if he hits a NATO city St Petersburg will cease to exist. Other alternatives I heard were that he personally would be targetted and eliminated by the Americans and they have him 24/7 in their sights with a nuclear strike. If they hit in Ukraine, NATO will have to respond and eliminate all Russian forces in Ukraine, Kaliningrad, Belarus and Black Sea.

Italy will stop supplying arms to Ukraine as soon as peace talks begin

Italian arms supplies will stop as soon as peace talks begin, the Italian defence minister told parliament, as lawmakers endorsed a government decision to extend military aid throughout 2023.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has repeatedly pledged to keep supporting Ukraine, despite frictions within her ruling coalition and a divided public opinion on the issue of arms supplies.
“I am aware that military aid will have to end sooner or later, and will end when we will have the peace talks that we are all hoping for,” Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said as he addressed the upper house, Senate.
“There is no doubt that we all want peace, but this goal cannot be pursued without providing assistance to a country facing unilateral aggression in violation of international law”.

As long as the Yanks supply the weapons with UK and Polish backup, especially for transit and refugees, the other EU members who would suck on Russia's teat are not needed.

I think you misunderstood the statement

There is an appetite to do business with Putin, the Makrons, the Scholzes/Shreuders, etc. The same people who would also push the Americans out of Europe, but they're failing at that too.

I don't go on single posts.
