How can one characterize Putin’s Russia? It has been described as a mafia gangster state. This is correct as far as it goes, but it does not go far enough. This characterization only describes the monstrous form of the Russian state. It tells us nothing about its precise class character. Actually, it avoids the central issue altogether. Let us pose the question concretely, and in stages. Is Russia capitalist? We all agree that it is. Russia is a capitalist state, controlled by an oligarchy that owns big companies and banks that were looted from the nationalized economy.
Putin does not stop at any violent means to impose his will outside Russia’s borders whenever he considers it necessary to protect the interests of the Russian oligarchs – and his own, of course.

This from a bunch of Marxists

Details: According to the SSU, taking into account the conversations of the militants, the Russians could have caused the tragedy due to the explosives they placed in the premises of the colony. No eyewitnesses heard any rocket flying towards the correctional institution. There was no characteristic whistling, and the explosions occurred independently of this.

"The conversations intercepted by the SSU confirm that the Ruscists [Russian soldiers] placed their Grad systems near the correctional facility and started firing with them on the territory controlled by Ukraine. However, no shelling was observed in response – this is confirmed by the ‘DPR’ fighters themselves," the Security Service said.

The special service also added that, taking into account the videos available on the network, the windows in some rooms of the colony were completely preserved. This indicates that the epicentre of the explosion was inside the destroyed building, and its walls absorbed the blast waves, saving the neighbouring premises.

Also, a preliminary analysis of the video shows that such traces of the explosion on the walls most likely remained due to the internal source of the explosion.

"In general, there is plenty of evidence that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not launch missile and artillery strikes in the area of Olenivka. Therefore, all statements of Russian propaganda about alleged shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine are outright lies and provocation," the SSU emphasised

Red Cross offers to help evacuate wounded from Ukrainian POW attack

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking access to the site of a deadly attack on a facility holding Ukrainian prisoners of war and has offered to help evacuate the wounded, it has said.
“The ICRC has offered its support in the evacuation of the wounded and to donate medical supplies, protective equipment and forensic material. Our priority right now is making sure that the wounded receive life-saving treatment and that the bodies of those who lost their lives are dealt with in a dignified manner,” it said in a statement.
“We have requested access to determine the health and condition of all the people present on-site at the time of the attack. We are also in contact with families, taking their requests and inquiries.”

‘Logic of brute force’ gaining more traction over ‘rule of law’: Japanese FM

Japanese foreign minister Yoshimasa Hayashi has said that Russian aggression needs to go down in history as a “clear failure” otherwise other countries will attempt to change the status quo by force.
He said the “logic of brute force” is gaining more traction over the “rule of law” in the Indo-Pacific.

UN: Russia preventing aid delivery to occupied Ukraine

Russia is preventing humanitarian aid being brought to the occupied regions of Ukraine, United Nations representatives have said at a briefing in Kyiv.
Saviano Abreu, from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said that humanitarian access to areas of Ukraine not controlled by the Ukrainian government is “extremely difficult,” if not impossible.
“People in these regions, in the Donbas, in the south of Ukraine, they are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance,” he said.

We can only hope for something good coming out of this

South Africa, a leader in the developing world, has emerged as a key diplomatic battleground as it has remained studiously neutral on the Ukraine war, refusing to join Western calls to condemn Moscow, which still enjoys affection for the Soviet Union’s historical opposition to apartheid.

Blinken will visit Johannesburg and the executive capital, Pretoria, from August 7-9. He will then head to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa in a bid to show support for sub-Saharan Africa’s vastest country as it tries to turn the page on decades of conflict.

Here's Russia's prove that is was a Himars missile. Notice the bench in dire need of a new paint job.

Here's another Russian bench in need of a new paint job.

The railway track was damaged, presumably, during the shelling of HIMARS rockets at the Kamysh-Zarya station in the Zaporozhye region near the border of the DPR, said the head of the regional administration Yevgeny Balitsky.
"Today, presumably, using the HIMARS MLRS, strikes were made on the railway track of the Kamysh-Zarya station. Three branches of the track were broken at a distance of 600 meters from the station towards Rozovka and three branches at a distance of 300 meters from the station towards Melitopol and Polog," he said. Balitsky in his Telegram channel.
He added that the law enforcement officers have already come out on the trail of spotters who will be detained.

They really need to paint these two completely different benches from two different location...

Its odd - illogical - obtuse - to me anyway.

Reading up on the drivel and rhetoric about "the west" - and how badly they were plotting after the Russians and they are the evil etc, etc, etc. Then of course NATO got a turn, not to mention the UN, Japan, UK ....... in fact anyone who didn't see things the way that Putin wanted them to see things.

Conveniently, the past has been dredged up to justify a war, which of course is now a "proxy war" and in the eyes of Russia, they are completely innocent? Of course, had the UA rolled over - or as Putin would have it - be reasonable and do as I say - well, then what would have happened, other than a small portion of the UA would have been liberated, but the bulk captured?

Conveniently, its forgotten that Russia before this war was - and still is - capitalizing on selling oil and gas to that same west.
Its forgotten that the market economy before the war, provided goods and jobs for Russians.
the Russian oligarchs profited and thrived under the cushy western acceptance of modern Russia.
And now
In a report by the London-based residency and citizenship advisory firm Henley & Partners, Head of Research at New World Health Andrew Amoils wrote that Russia was “haemorrhaging millionaires”.
Russia was an awesome place to live - it was like being in the greater Eurozone. In fact, at one point, we were even considering Russia as place to relocate to, rather than the US - it was cheaper, but paid worse.

Putin - not Russia - Putin went on the rampage and boom, suddenly we are back to pre Gorbachev era and the whaddaboutisms are flying all over the show. Suddenly everyone is an expert on Nazis and Imperialists.

The war started - being justified by the people in the Donbas being hard done by - then it was the Ukraine in general, then the west, then UK then US then NATO ........... now its Zelenskys turn. Thank heavens Starbucks pulled out, or they would have got an ass kicking too probably.

Rhetorical - do people not see that nothing could justify the number of deaths and the wanton destruction we now see? Is it, that people in general always want to be the only ones who are right in terms of what they believe or want to be the all powerful and enjoy having their asses licked?

I dunno, but I do think Putin and by extension Lavrov and Peskov and Fokkov or whoever else supports Putin should do some serious introspection, but know, deep down their egos wont allow them to.
Such a statement is almost expected to be met with the whaddaboutism - but whddabout Zelensky?
What about him. He was less popular before the war - he is now very popular, thanks Mr. Putin ......

Again - neither the Russian people or the Ukrainian people are winning right now, and neither deserve this k@k - and its all because of one guy ......

Oh well. Id est quod id est.
