Hi there, interested.
Can those drives be replaced with standard SATA drives?

It seems that it is possible if you have the little boxes to put the drives in that fits into the server (which I don't have).
BUT, what little I've seen, they don't recommend it.

These servers are 3 generations behind and have poo processors, the price is a little high... Shall do some research on the drives. Those defiantly wont do

SAS is backward compatible with SATA, so in theory you can plug a sata drive on SAS controler, but i would advise against it.

I've setup a Dell server with a Sata disk for testing, and it failed in 1 week (partion invalid) after the second try, ive installed sas drive, and its running till today 2 years later.

I guess only firmware issue, but still.

Also remember that is xeon cpu's

I opened them up to look.
Both have dual sockets, but only one CPU. So you could add another if you can get one.

Thanks for getting back to me insom.

As much as these units seem pretty perfect, I am very skeptical of the ability to find the CPU as well as additional RAM needed to get these up to the spec I really need (I want these boxes to run video editing via RDP), so looking at allocating at least 4 cores and 32GB or RAM per VM, with the hopes of running at least 2-3 VM's concurrently...

I will ask the guys if they have any spares they can give/sell me. But I wouldn't hold out much hope. :(

It seems that I have found a supplier of 4GB DIMMs, so RAM is not much of an issue. CPU's on the other hand... :/ If you do come right, please give me a shout :D

They say they might have some 1gig RAM chips around, but no CPUs. Sorry.

What are the serial numbers? Are the CPU's dual or quad core?

They are both back up for sale.

They are both quad core processors.

Price drop: R4000 for both.
