THE government’s policy of managed liberalisation for the telecoms sector has failed so badly that the gap between SA and the rest of the world is widening, say analysts.

Like we need analysts to tell us this......even my 10 year old nephew can tell you that everything Ivy and Ol' Thabs touches turnes to c***!

What amazes me is that there is not a single publication that has reported, recently, how the government is doing a good job when it comes to telecommunications. Even the department of communications themselves appear to have largely given up defending their ineptitude and have been ominously silent in response to these articles. And in the face of all this negative publicity and overwhelming public opinion that things are not as they should or could be, why is this situation allowed to continue unopposed? Where's the revolt? Where's the 'stand up and be counted'? Where's the part where any of that actually seems to make a difference? I thought that this was the basis of a democracy. Where the people have the power. The people have spoken. And yet, nothing seems to be happening. Why??

And my car got broken into for a fourth time this morning in this year. So...uh, why exactly do I still live hear if I have German citizenship?

And guavamint wonders why it's got a serious brain drain on its hands.

Orwell would be proud

Our Department of Communications would fit right into 1984, where the Ministry of Peace waged war and the Ministry of Truth spread lies.

Apart from Revenue, which department is reported as doing well?

If they ever started an internet museum then all of SA would be part of it's working "old tech" display

To say that we are "falling behind" would imply that at one point we were on par with the rest of the world...

Actually, if I remember correctly, we were the first country with electrical switches, replacing the old mechanical EWSD's. So in a way we were ahead of many other countries.

The fact that we aren't in that position any more, is sad indeed.

You should not let your nephew use expletives.

Ivy and Thabs are better left to adults in hushed conversations.

By now we do know what is wrong with telecoms in SA - simply put, we do not have a telecoms market in SA - instead we have a telecommunistications market controlled by self-enrichment guavamentals out to make quick bucks for themselves and keep the gravytrain rolling.

Analysts and journalists help to remind the guavamentals that their treasonous abuse of power does not go unnoticed by those willing to open their eyes and ears to the truth, and some day the bad karma will come back to haunt the guavamentals.

The ANC will never issue a policy directive in the public domain, but it does seem like they don't want the masses to get access to affordable communication. What are they affraid of?

I've been wondering the same thing lately. I e-mail Jenny Crwys-Williams last week and asked if she would bring the topic up and even posted the url link to mybroadband.co.za and suggested she read the articles and check out the forum comments so that she could get an idea of the damage that has been done and is being done to the SA economy. Needless to say I've heard nothing since. I find the media's silence deafening and just get the feeling that the issue is being ominously ignored by the mainstream media i.e. SABC, Primemedia, eTV. Multichoice addressed the issue once or twice some time back but since there has been no follow up. Something seems very wrong…….
