I e-mail Jenny Crwys-Williams last week and...Needless to say I've heard nothing since.
JC-W has an email address? - what is it, maybe more of us can email her...

Government did do something they re-appointed 'Tsunami' Shope-Mafole for a second three-year term. Another 3 years behind the civilized world.

The ANC will never issue a policy directive in the public domain, but it does seem like they don't want the masses to get access to affordable communication. What are they affraid of?

A burma-type situation where ordinary citizens(ie not only those with fat wallets) broadcast the truth about their lives?

You're new around here.

3 gigs
exorbitant pricing
thin straws

no competition
monopoly
profiteering
price rape of the populace
neotel
infraco
cable debacle

Gee a million plus posts and you're asking 'where are we falling behind?'

You clearly have not read the news article, or any other broadband-related news articles.

Sickest part of all: "How long you think before the man on the street can afford it?"

But yeah, welcome to the forum, spend some time. :D

What amazes me is that there is not a single publication that has reported, recently, how the government is doing a good job when it comes to telecommunications. Even the department of communications themselves appear to have largely given up defending their ineptitude and have been ominously silent in response to these articles. And in the face of all this negative publicity and overwhelming public opinion that things are not as they should or could be, why is this situation allowed to continue unopposed? Where's the revolt? Where's the 'stand up and be counted'? Where's the part where any of that actually seems to make a difference? I thought that this was the basis of a democracy. Where the people have the power. The people have spoken. And yet, nothing seems to be happening. Why??

Because the average South African has far greater worries than the price of broadband. Those who even know what it is are in the vast minority.

How much were you paid for that comment?

What I don't understand is it seems no one gets it.

A few people are raking in and coining it at the expense of the masses.

Why would this stop?

Does anyone think it'll stop because we're wringing, or because it's the right thing to do.

Well, it won't stop.

There is no quick solution for those in decision making positions to let go. To them the winging masses are merely a nuisance.

I'm almost desperate for Jacob Zuma to win the presidency just so that Ivy will be replaced. And sommer Manto, while we're at it, just to show I have a social conscience...

When you can't watch a YouTube video during the day on a 4mb p/s connection, you know you're f**ked. Thank you to all of the kind souls whom have made this possible.

'... SA was suffering increased state intervention in the telecoms, technology and broadcasting sectors'

Welcome to Africa. Where government want to control it all and private enterprise is only seen as stealing money from their potential revenue streams.

Actually, that's not entirely fair. There are an embarrassing number of countries north of us that appear capable of doing a better job than us...
