I have been trying to use this of late, really poor, even for browsing.

Switched back to my phone hotspot.

They've already been offering free wifi since last year. But I use my Mweb uncapped wifi through AlwaysOn! :) When I was at OR Tambo Departures Lounge, I did a speed test, and got 15mbps Up and 25mbps down.

Aaah, thought it would be something ridiculous like that.

Germany (Frankfurt) at least offers the first hour free.
German airports are notoriously expensive with their wifi.
Frankfurt is one of the better ones.

Well the data is only enough to check one's emails which i think is fair enough. If one wants to watch videos then of course you should expect to pay

Munich airport I got about a 30mbit up + down, expires every 30 minutes from what I can remember but I just used my gmail account and signed up with a new alias every time, no confirmation or anything you just need to fill in your email. Uploaded about 700 photos from my holiday quick quick.

50mb is ridiculous in this day and age for "free wifi".

ACSA make millions from their taxes and makes out a big chunk of flight fares. Wi-Fi should at least be free for an hour as part of the taxes we pay. 50meg is dismal but at least it is a move in the right direction.

Nice to know! What's the catch?

If they say free WiFi, I wish it would just work right away and not need me to sign up for some BS.

It really works the same as all AlwaysOn services in hotels, etc. Although, sometimes they have a time limit. The browser-based login actually works well where there is a time limit, because you can pause it. No need to sign up or anything. Your browser just redirect to their site, where you click on guest access.

Outside the time/bundle limit they are more expensive than cell data (CellC or Afrihost, at least) so no use in buying more.

Cannot vouch for their connection. I have not tested it at the airport. Wifi is free in the lounges :D

crap article - 50 MB OVER WHAT PERIOD OF TIME ?

50 MB every hour or
50 MB a day
50 MB a week
50 MB a month
50 MB a year
50 MB a decade or
50 MB once off (once per lifetime) ????????

Nice to see all airports now have free Wi-Fi, but 50MB or 30 Minutes....a bit sad, especially the timing part. I was at Garden Court Marine Parade and they offered 300MB free Wi-Fi over 2 days I think...airports should follow.
