I'm in the unfortunate position where I have to deal with people who insist on communicating by fax. I need to be able to receive faxes as well as send. I know there are plenty of free fax2email services making their money on premium inbound costs, but I specifically need something where I can upload PDF or Word documents and send them to someone. I need delivery receipts and the cost should be at least in line with traditional faxing from a landline. I'd also like it to be a PAYG solution that isn't going to expire because I haven't received anything in X days.

Has anyone got any experience with such a service that they can recommend. Google spits out pages of these services and I'd like to avoid the fly-by-night operators.

Isat.co.za.

I've used them personally and all faxes were received instantly. I think it was R20 per month. Be warned you need to give them a month's notice to cancel.

I ended up going with faxfx.co.za. It's prepaid with no monthly fees. You simply send email to <number>@faxfx.net with your attachment and it delivers it. You get submission and delivery reports. So far so good.

I just tried to send a fax using faxfx for the first time now. :S I don't know if I'm understanding correctly, but my one sending attempt resulted in three items being listed in my sent items on my faxfx account. Two were labeled "temporary failure" and one was labeled "failed", and then just over ten bucks was used for it. Is this normal? Did it try to send three times over? Where can I change that to only attempt once. >.< I can't get their FAQs or Support pages to work, so I'm a little confused.

Edit: Forgot to add that I read that the service said it charged per successful page sent? My failed attempts have zero pages sent recorded.

how did you send? I sent via email with them, be sure to optimize file size to keep them under 1mb.

I also sent via email. The file ended up being 1.3mb, so it was a little over. :S I finally got to their support and FAQ page again. I had to log out to get it working. I was just a bit confused cos the FAQs had a blurb about Per Page Billing. I hope the file size didn't impact too much. I'm mostly wondering about the multiple attempts. I normally check if I got the number wrong or something if the first attempt fails, but it kind of looked like it just auto-retried.

Thanks for the help though.
