SA cell number prefix?

Hi All

I am looking for a way to identify what cell numbers belong to which providers.

I'm sure there is an ICASA list somewhere - but I can't find it!

e.g.
083 = MTN
0721 - 0725 = Vodacom
etc.

I know number portability messes this up, but I am not concerned by the exceptions.

All cell routers must use this type of logic - so it must be accessible

Thanks
Steven

Added note, with number porting that list could muck up ;)

For example

I'm smsing a friend on vodacom4me using an 072 number that was ported ;)

Ahoy here is the info:

Code:
Network Code Name prefix
65501 Vodacom ZA +27 711, 712, 713, 714, 715, 716, 72, 76, 82, 79
65507 CellC ZA +27 74, 84
65510 MTN ZA +27 710, 719, 73, 83, 78

Pulled it from our database. Just remember about number portability and unless your a WASP you cannot get that information.

EDIT: I work for a WASP

Yes it's not pretty, but here we go. Only around 1% of total cellular users have ported, so it's not a huge issue just yet.

I agree with you, the figure we received was 0.9%, and that was in December, which we all thought was high.

What they don't say is that many entries in the db are users that have ported back to their originating network. We where going to filter those numbers out, but since the db size is so small (LOL) we have not bothered.

Just checked my old number 27845133552 that I ported from CC to MTN and its still "ported". The joke is this contract expired 15 Jan 2009. So much for their stats I guess.

Just checked our incoming and outgoing SMS logs and 085 has not been used yet. We only update our db when the networks confirm they have been issued and sent out into the wild.

I know CC might loose some of their 074x prefixes to VC and MTN. Was talk and memos about it.

Just a FYI update on the prefixes. We picked up that 0717 and 0718 are on MTN and not Vodacom. What is strange is we where never officially informed about these ranges. Picked it up while looking into something at work.

Stupid thing about these ranges, as you guys have mentioned, is that no one informs us when things change. But then who are we hey, just route the calls, nothing fancy... lol...

Thanks for that. But I'm looking for international. And that wiki one is out of date.
