SA credit card and banking details leak

Did I miss it or is the company not named? Might help people in assessing their risk.

By limited they probably mean All - if previous SA company transparency is anything to go by.

Seriously, I use a number of online merchants, I would like to know if the affected party is one that I use or not!

Unbelievable...

Only in SA will a company feign ignorance and hope for the best.

Better yet they will actually actively conceal whom will be affected.

I mean, f##k the consumer, they can deal with the fallout right?

Fark me...

Bloody release the list of companies that were responsible for this.

I need to be able to see if I am going to possibly be impacted by this, plus I need to know which merchants NOT to use.

this is ridiculous
how can they not let us know what companies have been affected?

Article is pretty devoid of useful content. I word does pique my interest though:
There are indications at this stage that only a limited number of card details have been accessed by outside organisations
^^^ That to me does not sound like a standard hack.

Its 1 payment processor, not a list of companies who screwed up. The (innocent) client's of that processor is likely a very long list.

I will be sending an email to Walter Volker, as well as to FNB to request that this detail be released.

Expecting all card holders to just "watch" their cards is unacceptable in the extreme.

Then that payment processor's name must be made public, and then their clients must go out of their way to contact their clients who have used that payment gateway to process transactions.

A wishy washy press statement like this is NOT bloody acceptable when you are talking about peoples money.

Pasa CEO Walter Volke said there was no need for “undue concern” by cardholders.

“There are indications at this stage that only a limited number of card details have been accessed by outside organisations, and as a result limited fraud has been perpetrated,” he said in a statement.

When is concern then due? When you're bloody bankrupt?

And only a limited number? Those people are still affected...name and shame the company responsible.

I received a call from Absa yesterday, informing me that the details of 4000 credit cards have been possibly compromised and mine is from amongst them.
They have blocked the card and will be shipping me a new one.

My dad had an unauthorized withdrawal on his CC from some or other African country this month. It could've been the same leak. Who knows. He's with ABSA private bank.

Are they charging you for the new card out of interest?

Agreed, one would think that at the very least those affected would be contacted.... it may be the case but this is not stated so not sure but it does not sound like it

Edit: Sorry... it seems like those affected are being contacted.... did not read the whole thread

Are they charging you for the new card out of interest?

No, I doubt even Absa would dare try a stunt like that.

I suspect Monsterpay is the culprit here, as they are the only third party gateway I have used recently with that card.
