SA cricket tour of the west indies

Going nowhere and then losing wickets also loses Test matches. You need a balance and under 2 runs an over isn't it.
You sound like you're talking about ODIs. Test matches give you plenty of time to absorb pressure, and that takes defence.

I agree with him. We are in survival mode from the 1st ball. It's negative and doesn't suite someone like Markram. Batting at 2 runs an over in tests is far too slow.

Test matches require you to adapt, they are bowling well right now, the pitch is giving assistance. They just need to see off the new ball.

We were slow in the first test also. It seems to be a tactic. These guys don't have the technique to see off the new ball. They are sitting ducks against a swinging ball its just a matter of time until they get out.

And you sound like you are talking of a test playing style of a long gone era. The modern player doesn't have the defence to play how you are advocating.
The two best test sides currently are India and Aus and I can guarantee you they wouldn't let themselves get dictated to as we have done .
Not to mention how England would try to counter this.

Long gone era? Players have to adapt to conditions. Current conditions call for defensive absorption of pressure until it passes some.

Generalise much? Those that don't will be found out.

We'll never know.

Would be interesting viewing.

One of the luckiest drops ever.
What drop ? It landed safely between 3 fielders.

Warrican to Bedingham, 1 run, in the air.... lands safe!! Flighted up onto middle and off, Bedingham goes for a big heave across the line. Toe ends it and the bat turns on impact. Goes high up but lands between long-off, extra cover and mid-on

** edit OK that one was dropped

"Holder to Tristan Stubbs, no run, dropped!! Pitched up outside off, tempts Stubbs to lean onto the drive and Holder induces the edge. Lobs towards Warrican at first slip who leaps forwards as the ball was dying down on him. Pops in and out his hands"

Just how bad is our batting? Has it ever been weaker? The fact that someone like Bavuma is our "best" batter is surreal. Can you imagine in the era of Kallis, Amla, AB, Graeme that you could have a batsmen that has played 60 tests and only scored 2 hundreds? He's the best of bad bunch which is a sad indictment of how far we have fallen in tests. All those guys at some stage averaged over 50 now our best batsmen average 36. I'm just venting but it feels like ages since I've enjoyed us batting in tests.

In the 1990's the top order was as weak but we had lots of quality allrounders who would bail us. We were regularly 100/5.
