Seriously though it's more than likely they were also responding to something rather than escorting the ambulance. I've never heard of something like that happening.
I've seen it before. It was metro escort (they were clearing the route for them. Taxis and other selfish drivers) and not SAPS.

I wondered about that though - it was peak hour traffic and they had two police cars escorting an ambulance into town.
You don't usually transport a patient during peak traffic hours and if there was an accident they would have used the helicopter. I'd love to know why this happened.

I've tried it with SAPS in Jozi before. They complied without questions. I've only ever dealt with TMPD once: 2 enthusiastic young officers who thought they've nabbed a DUI offender (you know the juice bottles that look like cider?).

We ended up having a friendly chat before they drove off.
