Looks like they're going to be way over budget, knew this whole thing was going to end up being a financial drain despite what everyone said at the time. That's assuming everything"s built in time anyway.

The 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) said in a statement it expected Parliament to pass legislation to enable the disbursement of funds on October 24, allowing for the appointment of contractors by the end of the year and a start of construction in the new year.

WTH is going on? A report a few weeks ago by all sorts of gvt officials stated that construction has already started??

Sepp Blater himself said that these world cup preparations never come in under budget, yet they are profitable. Look at the Japan/Korea world cup, something like an extra 15 stadiums were built, demolished after the world cup and had never even been used! Our world cup has been budgeted as one of the cheapest world cups organized (due to the small amount of foreigners expected, and the associated lower foreign income), and the stadiums can be used thereafter for other sporting codes (as a rugby fan I’m looking forward to that!)
And it’s not about job creation, feeding the hungry, catching criminals or any of that; it’s about sport, plain and simple. Every day these government departments declare savings because of unspent budgets, why should we throw more money at them and their inefficiency?
Even if I end up watching Crapy team A vs. Crapy team B, it will be a great experience. Well worth it!
