@icyrus ... yups ... also ... remember that when they ask you R400 for a ticket to visit your stadium.

What's going to happen if SA loses in the first round (a very likely event)? When Kaizer Chief's perform badly or lose, their fans start ripping the stadiums apart.

The 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) said in a statement it expected Parliament to pass legislation to enable the disbursement of funds on October 24, allowing for the appointment of contractors by the end of the year and a start of construction in the new year.
WTH is going on? A report a few weeks ago by all sorts of gvt officials stated that construction has already started??

Patriotism does not put food on the table of the millions of people who could have benefited from the money.

Please, if that’s the case please let me know how much money was taken away from the Department of Social Welfare for the building of the stadiums, and then I’ll consider your argument!

Every rand that is spent on something other that creation of long term jobs is a waste of money. How many long term jobs will the building of these white elephants create?

Yeah, 'cause we all know there is an endless supply of money available, so if a few billion gets wasted here and there it doesnt matter right?

Sepp Blater himself said that these world cup preparations never come in under budget, yet they are profitable. Look at the Japan/Korea world cup, something like an extra 15 stadiums were built, demolished after the world cup and had never even been used! Our world cup has been budgeted as one of the cheapest world cups organized (due to the small amount of foreigners expected, and the associated lower foreign income), and the stadiums can be used thereafter for other sporting codes (as a rugby fan I’m looking forward to that!)
And it’s not about job creation, feeding the hungry, catching criminals or any of that; it’s about sport, plain and simple. Every day these government departments declare savings because of unspent budgets, why should we throw more money at them and their inefficiency?
Even if I end up watching Crapy team A vs. Crapy team B, it will be a great experience. Well worth it!
