SA government requests local user info from Facebook, Google

So not for a crime of rape, murder, child abuse, drug traficking, or any of the rampant serious crimes we battle with in SA, but for defamation.

Wow. Just wow.

Expected. When someone says the truth they want to know where it comes from.

And how many requests for MYBB News and Current Affairs section posters?

As I can remember from the article on the requests that Facebook acceded to, all countries that were successful in their requests were G8 countries. These are countries are paranoid about terrorism given the attacks in recent years.

I can imagine their paranoia extends to countries like China, India, Brazil and South Africa (which are not part of the G8). So, fat chance getting those requests approved by the American companies (Facebook and Google). However, I am not surprised Google gave up one of the requests because it is a lot less uptight on anything than any other large tech company in existence (it is basically free for all with Google - even if US law tries to prevent it).
