Gonna have to think of another way to save money, labour will burn this place to the ground before giving up a cent. I'm starting to think that might be for the best, just so they can feel our hurt.

I cant read the whole article (pay wall).. but double the salary over 13 years sounds like yearly increases matching inflation numbers.

Nothing to really make a fuss about.
Was about to say this.. it’s a sensationalist headline. Guess it quickly shows who actually understands money.

And no one ever gets fired? Are we supposed to fire people for fun these days or what is Sunday times trying to say?

Performance contracts and management, and properly followed dismissal process for non performance.
We've all seen those pics of municipal workers playing solitaire while the queue builds up....

With the current gummint approved labour law, it is al.ost impossible to fire an employee , no matter how useless they are without heading to the CCMA and a settlement that is way to high just to get rid of people that are actively destroying a business. :(

In a report by MyBroadband in January 2019, it was further highlighted that the public sector wage bill accounts for nearly R550 billion of the government’s total spend.

This amount, on a percentage of GDP level, is higher than many countries – including USA, Russia, Brazil, and Australia.
Totally nothing to make a fuss about.
I mean, this is totally normal.
What stupid sensationalism is this, amirite?!

We could fire all those SAMWU members who riot and vandalise?

we? so you do work in government

you were also fighting against the last government pay piece that popped up. trying to play it down.

comrads dont get fired, they get put on paid leave while "due process is followed" then recycled to another position when things die down years later. or, their contract comes to an early end, easily allowing them to be fit for another position ...lol

Yup, using SA inflation calc, inflation is up ~106% since 01/03/2007. So yeah, more than double.

Remember there is a difference between who is voting in bigger government and who is paying the bill.
