SA has a backlog of 320,000 driver’s licences - And it is caused by corrupt officials

How are they corrupting it though?

My theory is they screw it up in order to force you to ''pay'' for a slot. Nothing available online, so you physically go there and then they ask for a bribe.

The ANC are an ongoing plague on this country.

It's a similar story with motor vehicle license renewals. You basically have to take a day off, stand in queues and hope you don't get covid and still might not get helped.

Tried to register to renew online but my registration has been 'in-progress' for 3 weeks.
Did mine online with CoCT. Took about 4 weeks for them to contact me to pay. Then another 3-4 weeks and it was delivered.

Mine expired in April. Have no intention of renewing anytime soon. Only been asked to show it once ever. And it so happens that that one had expired at the time and the traffic cop didn't even notice lol.

It took me 4 hours in a queue the last Friday of October. Its either that or you pay a Q4U service to do it for you.

Colour me surprised /s

These twats working for government is just as corrupt as their bosses and Cadres. They get paid a nice fat salary.. and yet.. want more. They have fck all pressure, they can't be fired... but nope.. must be corrupt too.

Government employees so many people (over staffed) and they still have a back log of work.. really...

Only in WC I think, in many other places one can do it at the Post Office, or via other private entrepreneur booths/kiosks or systems.

The wife went for her driver's license card renewal not long ago.... on a Sunday mind you..... card was ready for collection in under 3 weeks. Backlog???!

Lol I'm supposed to pass out on the 25th November, if all else fails I'll just buy them a KFC bucket and call it a day.

There is a one month backlog using the city's online portal. Your application should be processed in the next few days if you applied three weeks ago.

My application took just over a month to be processed.

Why they can't indicate this on their portal, response email or the city's web site is beyond me.

Edit

Still haven't received disks yet but only been a few days since payment.

expired licence is 500 bux
but the cop can go up to R1500 if he wants to depending on your attitude

It might be cheaper to tell the occifer that you forgot your licence at home and pay that fine instead

But surely Fikile, as Transport Minister, is accountable for this?

Oh, I forgot, it's the ANC.

Insurance companies typically pounce on this and deny claims in case of mishaps. In case you don't know it already. Just have it done, will you. It is not about 'giving' it to the cops/system/ANC.

Sounds unlikely. There generally is no discretion for traffic fines. Not on the part of the officer.
