that is the thing....unless the "madness" is addressed..., no matter the toys/environment you throw at the problem.. our singular core programming needs attention ...when facets start understanding their impact on the whole.. solutions will flow...that new world starts emerging,
Aren't we (madness) the products of our toys/environment?

indeed - we not even aware of our conditioning...the truths/constructs we readily accept, and spread.... are either diluted, none essential or just madness -- and we dive deeper and deeper into the madness every minute...and yet, all answers to overcome the current state of play, is readily available...in stillness you find so much

420 and shrooms are just "day passes" to wonder that we all our..... when all that is needed is a silent mind, where the egoic mind has been surrendered and liberated energy starts a process of awakening to your true self.

I may have derailed this thread... can we ignore the above and waffle on about taxpayers leaving the sinking ship?

Somewhere along the line VAT was paid. Whether it's paid upfront by the suppliers or by the resellers the cost is accounted for in the sale price of all goods. If you spend money you are a taxpayer. If you want to talk about a group then you must say PAYE taxpayers are leaving the country or whatever.
Less so than if it was paid down the line. Informal channels are also less likely to use sources that charge VAT. Now couple that to having less disposable income, and I know the subject isn't about this, but most of those goods are also not subject to import duties.

Want to turn around the economic decline, then start by eradicating poverty.
It's the other way around. Start by creating more opportunities. You start creating more opportunities by making it easier to do business. Remove red tape. Get rid of albatrosses like Eskom.

What will eradicate poverty once and for all?

It would be your place to tell us since you are the one grandstanding with the statement, "then start by eradicating poverty", so how do you intend achieving that?

You would also have to start by explaining to many of those people you consider poor, by your subjective measures, why you think their relaxed lifestyle should be eradicated simply for enjoying owning a cow and living in a hut on a hill. In fact the happiest nation on earth are a population of islanders living in what you would call poverty.

Beyond that, when we begin to look at genuine poverty in malnourished communities there are extremely complex issues at play. You cannot ethically expect to forcefully remove these people from remote parts of the earth. They are no shortages only logistical issues involved in getting food to remotely situated communities that stubbornly refuse to move. And that is their right not to move.

Poverty is not something that can ever be eradicated. So you would need to begin by defining the poverty you view as requiring your superior intervention. Perhaps even understanding how many people even want your force-fed pity. What entitles you to speak for all of them in your broad sweeping statements before you have even bothered to understand the wishes of those people?

This.

Also: Poverty is not the same as satisfaction. Discontent is relative. People who have little are fairly satisfied as long as the people around them have equally little. It's when someone comes along and tells them stories about beings who seemingly have a whole lot more than them, that they develop covetousness. And when the same people tell them lies that they deserve are entitled to more, the covetousness becomes resentment.

If i had the answer maybe poverty would no longer exist. I only know what's not working.

Poverty is having a job but not being able afford to buy a home.

What I'm telling you is the VAT one cadre pays for a new Merc every other year is more than the VAT paid by an entire family living in a shack per annum.

Not sure how else to explain fractions and relativity to you.

EDIT: are spaza shops VAT registered vendors?

My understanding of how VAT works is that if they're not VAT registered vendors then they pay VAT when purchasing their supplies, so the total lost here would be the VAT on their markup.

i.e. if they buy something for sale at R10 and sell it at R12, they'd pay VAT on the R10 and there'd be no VAT paid on the R2 markup if they don't remit VAT.

I also don't believe that they need to be VAT registered vendors for them to remit VAT to SARS, I think if you're under a certain turnover threshold then you can't register for VAT. You'd therefore pay VAT when purchasing and would then have to remit the VAT portion of your markup.

A vendor that is not registered for VAT does not have a "VAT portion" on their markup as they do not have a VAT number and therefore they are not permitted to charge VAT. Btw a vendor may voluntarily register as a VAT vendor below the threshold.
