Be that as it may, I still don't trust the SA Gov to put competent people there; fail safes do fail and that's what people are there for, but if they have no clue...

^^ I have no problems with nuclear power... but I look at Majuba silo as an example and see Cape Chernobyl in our future

And to conclude in 6 months?

A tender/bidding process of this magnitude does not open and close in a 6 month period.

Why not? From document submission to conclusion, 6 months sounds reasonable (Baring any unforeseen issues. Which there will no doubt be). The other IPP bids are concluded in much quicker time-frames (They are obviously smaller in nature. But still)

But the government already signed a memorandum with the Russians. Does that not automatically give them a lead start?

EDIT: See this article for instance:

The Government has signed similar agreements with France, USA, China (and South Korea if I remember correctly). That MG report, while widely reported on, turned out to be missing a great deal of information. Read Engineering News rather than tabloids like MG, IOL and News24

Why? Koeberg has always been, and still is, very well run

Majuba ran very well too, and then one day, a silo crumbled to dust

Edit: That said though, if they are doing proper training and skills transfer, not some 3 day 'seminar', more skills is always good

Ok cool, haven't seen that in the news. Don't really follow any news sites, just pick up random things.

Really? I never heard anyone say how well Majuba was run. In fact, I had never heard of it at all until a silo collapsed

Engineering News is probably one of the news sources around (Although tech/engineering related as you can imagine). Amazing what happens when there isn't any incentive for sensation to sell newspaper

I never heard anyone say it wasn't run well:)

Point being, it ran, it provided power and did its job, then suddenly, dust. If that sort of 'ignore the cracks' attitude happens in nuke plant, we're all screwed

Exactly. It baffles me why so many people always try find some angle to bitch and moan about. And they are found in every country (Many people that identify with the Republicans in the USA are exactly the same)
