I'll wait to hear the story from both sides, but I'm currently not liking what I'm hearing has been put on the table, its still too airy fairy and still puts too much money in the hands of this "fund"
Ramokgopa said whether patients want to participate in public or private healthcare, they would do so through the fund.
She told News24:
So, that was where the disagreement was [on the NHI]. Now we're saying, 'OK, let us agree that the NHI will continue', apart [from] how the fund is going to work. And it will be in that ministerial advisory council where there will be talk on how the fund is going to work and [whether] there will still be subsidies and all those kinds of things. So that was the big issue.

The ANC finally made a concession. They're backing off from private medical aids.In an interview with News24, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Maropene Ramokgopa revealed that the two main parties in the GNU, the ANC and the DA, have struck an informal agreement on the NHI after an ANC concession to drop sections of the law that could collapse medical aids.
Ramokgopa said she met with Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and DA leader John Steenhuisen, who is also agriculture minister, on the sidelines of last week's Cabinet lekgotla in Pretoria.
Ramokgopa said she, Motsoaledi and Steenhuisen agreed to a proposal suggesting that under the NHI, the government won't collapse medical aid schemes and that a ministerial advisory council will be established.
This council will sit when the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) has been adopted as policy, said Ramokgopa.
For the DA, the collapsing of medical aid schemes proposed by the NHI was a solid red line. The party was concerned that this would destroy private healthcare and jeopardise the overall quality of healthcare.
Part of Ramokgopa's negotiations with Motsoaledi and Steenhuisen on the sidelines of the lekgotla included a proposal where the medical aid issue would be discussed in a ministerial advisory council, which would be tasked with determining how NHI funding would work.
Seems like ANC is finally coming to the table. The ministerial advisory council "will be the one to actually finalise how everything is going to be done", said Ramokgopa.
"So, everyone agreed for the MTDP to continue on the understanding that the ministerial advisory council at the Cabinet lekgotla will be the one to continue with the implementation."
The minister said President Cyril Ramaphosa will spearhead this process.
Ramokgopa said the MTDP will be the premise for all the State of the Nation Addresses (SONA) until 2029.
"So, we had to negotiate now to say, 'Look, what is it that you're not happy with?' Then they (DA) showed me this part where they say everything will be collapsed (in relation to medical aid schemes).
"It means that the medical aids will be closed because they won't be subsidised under the NHI," Ramokgopa said, noting the DA's opposition to Section 33 of the NHI Act, which abolishes private medical scheme cover.
"I said, 'OK, I'll remove this, then we will agree that this matter will be dealt with in the ministerial advisory council.' I informed Motsoaledi, who said, 'Yes.'"
"Now, where we will iron out is only the private participation to which we agree that in the ministerial advisor's council, we will have the private sector, ourselves, and all the other role players in the health system to discuss how to implement the NHI.
"The NHI is agreed upon, but the implementation part of it – just that part of private sector participation – is what will be ironed out. But we agreed we can't cut the private sector out; we have to find a way of collaborating with them."
Thank you for continuing the struggle, comradeFollowing on from part 8....

The Americans are really not happy with us. This was bound to happen some time.

Reading between the lines, it sounds a lot like "we don't have a fscking clue how any of it will work, we'll try and figure it out through another committee. But we agree not to kill medical aids to get the DA off our backs"...

Is it thanks to DA and Steenhuisen at all; maybe just a fragment of common sense in the ANC? Or is it a sop for the DA's tacit support of Bela and EWC?

BELA was negotiated. DA is still going to court over the EX bill and potentially an amendment act as well.Or is it a sop for the DA's tacit support of Bela and EWC?
DA traitor socialist grand standing at it`s finest. Just like with BELA, the DA has no power and will act like they are negotiating and then fold. A play to show their dumb voters that they tried. DA must fvckoff, the only way to deal with the ANC is to give the middle finger.BELA was negotiated. DA is still going to court over the EX bill and potentially an amendment act as well.
