Who the hell are they and what right do they have to limit my freedoms to watch porn if I choose to pay for it?

they have the right to go to the court and ask the court
the court has to listen to their arguments and dismiss the application with costs - and frankly costs on attorney own client
then the media outside of Naspers needs to report on who has been funding this litigation

“Furthermore, Jasa alleges that Icasa ignored their obligation… to consider the moral and spiritual implications of TV channels… .”

What is the current bet on whether it's MY morals and spirituatlity that is being mentioned here, or theirs exclusively. TV should be free to broadcast porn. You can are similarly free to well ... not watch it. If you want, hide it behind a adult PIN on a decoder, or show it limited times of the day if on public TV. But to NOT be allowed to show it is censorship by certain moralistic people.

I have a problem with Christian channels being forced on us. Why aren't they banned yet? Imagine the hoopla if we had to go to court to remove them...

FYI: This is the same Christian advocacy group that tried to make it illegal for ISPs in South Africa to permit access to porn websites in 2010.
(They would basically block access to all porn websites in SA)

Seriously, fsck these guys and their censorship... this is a free country, not North Korea.

I'm with you..

Lets start a coalition against religious content on TV... and then sue ICASA and all and sundry for allowing it to be broadcast without parental guidance warnings and pincode locks etc etc..

by all means, but you'll need to fund your exercise and while latest studies show many atheists are rich most of them aren't stupid and intolerant enough to do this
also you don't have a financial backer committing champerty on this

It's the principle more than the content for me. If they're allowed their freedom to broadcast their religious shows, they should not impede on other people's freedoms to watch porn...

Yup, its the principle rather than anything else.... they're attempting to impede my freedoms (even though I have better ways to get access to porn than Starsat)

Some porn stars wear a crucifix during the scene or have a tattoo of one. Would that be okay with Christians?

Also: suppose this appeal goes nowhere and the channels get their broadcast and fame - will the dominee/pastor be the first to subscribe since he has to familiarise him/herself with the content as to preach properly about it? Like in the days when MNet first started and there was "vloek" (and Rugby) for the first time on TV and the dominee was the first person to get MNet?

The porn we have here is pathetic....just 2 girls bouncing their boobs for god knows how many hours.

StarSat already made clear how they intend to prevent easy access via the PIN and extra package etc. If a child ends up watching this, it means that their parents have left the TV tuned into the porn channels instead of "logging out" (kid could find the PIN too, but that's always a risk with anything PIN based)

Anyway, using a bit of logic, hopefully the judge realises that StarSat's protection is sound enough, and that it is the choice of adults to watch or not. Using the logic of this group, the next thing that should be banned is all violence and blood on TV, even on the news when all they are doing is presenting the news.

Lastly, if a kid wants to get hold of porn, they will find a way. Teens are already up to all sorts of shocking things like filming themselves doing it in public, posting slut lists and so on. Having access to porn behind a paywall isn't going to change that.

Worse comes to worse, kids can get their fix in the bible. Goodness knows there's already so much violence and sex in there...

the more important principle for me is the Rule of Law. I'd rather these ****ers go to court than use violence or political influence peddling to impose their will.

I truly believe that it was a great day for this country when an Islamic group approached the High Court to interdict the M&G from publishing something they felt was offensive and in a well reasoned legal judgment a judge, who happened to be female and Muslim (and who ruled in the CTR matter), dismissed their application - and the judgment was respected in the main (the M&G apology and whatever later is a different discussion).
It was a truly bad day when the ANC succeeded in censoring art with a very sound portrayal of the ****edupness that is Jacob Zuma without any judicial sanction.

Let them go to court, lets invite them to use the courts as the arbiter. And lets pray (mind the pun) that the Good Lord sees fit not to cause our appellate and constitutional courts to be packed by bigots

you have to get the decoder. install it. pay the subscription. its not like kids can just sit infront of sabc and watch the porn. you can be viewing porn in seconds on a cellphone. parents put that power into their kids hands everyday. why don't they try to legislate that? if parents who have toptv are not taking the necessary precautions so that their kids can watch the porn then that's another discussion altogether.

Are they JUS to try and stop the jus man from watching what he wants to watch when he's jus? Where's the justice?
