I see it's only got Android 4.3 though, can it be upgraded to the latest KitKat?

Yup, but it probably won't go further, Sony will release a new model and completely forget they had any models prior. That does seem to be their M.O. Or maybe they will surprise and actually keep updating the Z series.

My Asus Transformer tab has been stuck on 4.2 since i don't know when. Once new models come out the older ones get 0% attention

My Xperia s had it's last update about a month before my upgrade expired.

So basically 26 to 28 months from launch more or less.

The Xperia S is still sitting on Jellybean 4.1? Which was where all the phones from 2012 stopped :-( I also had one and stopping it at 4.1 isn't giving me 26 to 28 months of support. Unless you went custom rom which I eventually did.
