Besides the obvious that gives her the edge, how is she as a candidate? Besides the odd court case I really don't follow goings ons in the judiciary.
I don't know much about her judgments. I think the one that will be spoken about most is the Unisa Afrikaans judgment which she wrote in Xhosa and was confirmed last month by ConCourt in Afrikaans.
Having listened to the interviews of SCA judges who were vying for ConCourt positions and judges who have acted at the SCA, they all have stories of how horrible the place used to be, and now they say the work environment has improved since Maya took the reins.
Edit: Oops, seems the improvement is going at snails pace. But at this year's interviews most of the candidates said things are fine now.
