So Maya gets the recommendation. It should actually be a prerequisite to filling a senior position that the EFF strongly opposes your appointment. If the EFF approves an appointment, they obviously know that person will be ineffective in dealing with their kak.
They're terrified of Dunstan Mlambo

How the hell is Dali Mpofu on the JSC? He's basically a +1 to the EFF column, even though he is not on the JSC as an EFF representative.

The EFF have completely hoodwinked the majority of the JSC to vote for a Hlophe acolyte. It's likely that these interviews will have to be re-run, however, given the bad way in which they were run.

This recommendation is obvious because Maya has been the favourite for the longest time.

The JSC has been shown to be one huge sick joke.

I can't comment on which candidate is best but get worried if the EFF endorses one, make me wonder what they planning.

For the process this has become the Malema and Dali show, I can't believe these two clowns are allowed to highjack the process like they did. Malema again showed he's a thug and it was just allowed. If Dali represents our best legal minds than I have little hope for our legal profession.

Sisulu suggested the courts was captured but it appears the JSC has been captured by party politics'. Time to change the process and get ride of clowns like Malema and Mpofu!

They get away with it because of a spineless opposition that's only good for pointing fingers at the ANC. Or care about their coalition agreements to retain their mayors.

When a 10% party can effectively appoint judges, why would they care about winning elections.

The worst part is they were allowed to paint Ramaphosa into a corner by harping on about irrelevant schit during the interviews, instead of any actual legal questions. Now if he appoints someone against their recommendation, they have the ammo to wreak havoc with that...

Now that Zuma is renewing his attacks on Zondo, it was quite bizarre to see Malema and co. take aim at Zondo,

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some ‘allegations’ made in these interviews come to light in Zuma’s attack.

The JSC being made a circus...

At the end Lamola did withdraw his accusation.

But, yah, these interviews were the EFF's sandbox. Ramaphosa could still ignore the recommendation, though Maya is a good choice, she has the credentials, so at this time I wouldn't raise suspicion with the recommendation, however, the JSC is by no means impartial, it is observably a political tool.

I am surprised this went unquestioned although maybe the majority of the panel thinks Hlope is a good chap.

The question was asked and answered, answered well in my opinion, there is nothing else to make out of it in my opinion.

So, have we concluded that Justice Maya is basically EFF cadre?

A Maya snippet from the DM summary of the farce that was the JSC. "A potential red flag was her closeness to tainted Western Cape judge president John Hlophe. Disappointingly, Maya emerged as a candidate stronger on paper than in person – though a different tone and angle of JSC questioning might well have produced a superior result from her." I would have preferred Dunstan but don't really take it seriously.

I think the question of her closeness to Hlophe is very neither here nor there, not like she can undo the relationship and it is very unfair to want to cast aspersions on her based on that. I am sure judges form friendships while they are working together, if one of them turns out to be a problem in future there are ways of dealing with that.

I don't know whether it has been posted, but as expected, Judge Maya is now appointed as Deputy Chief Justice,

PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA APPOINTS JUDGE MAYA TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Madam Justice Mandisa Muriel Lindelwa Maya, current President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, as Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa with effect from 1 September 2022.
