South African sports need DStv's exclusive rights

While the sale of exclusive sports broadcasting rights often excludes many South Africans from accessing certain matches, stakeholders from both the broadcasting and sporting industry camps believe it is essential.

This is largely due to the additional revenue the sale of exclusive rights generates, which sustains sport in South Africa.

The ones doing the negotiation are clearly DEI / BEE. They need to learn how to negotiate better.

And how are the SABC going to pay for Sport rights.?
They are so broke they cant even pay attention.

Well for Folks like myself - our interest in Sport has waned, such that we are not prepared to make a effort to watch it. That includeds going to the stadium, even if they give tickets away for free.

DSTV needs the sport rights to sell it's overpriced service, it also needs Sports to ask premium fees gor advertising.

Unsustainable business model.

+1 If Amazon, Netflix or one of the other services bought rugby, cricket, football rights for a single year multichoice would be dead.

That 1:hour preview before the marptch must have 25 minutes of ads.
I find it unwatchable because of that. I just skip it and watch fromthe anthems onswats.
Half time it’s 2 minutes expert analysis and then ads.

I go two or 3 times a year to watch the stormers or a T20 game.
It’s still affordable and a nice day out.

There will be lots of crying once people are no longer interested in rugby because it was always hidden behind a monopolistic pay wall.
This.

And this is why I am not interested in F1 anymore. This, and BTCC, that made SABC broadcasts worth my while.

Now my TV is only used for movies, documentaries and watching YouTube channels I have subscribed to.

No longer enough interest, not me, my Wife, nor the Children.

Check the staduim, attendences at games. Only Rugby Tests and maybe SA20 have solid attendance.

The rest is well pathetic. Sports Bodies are doing sweet bugger all to fix that.

Domestic cricket matches used to be packed when they aired on SABC. No need for monopoly money to "invest" in grassroots, kids wanted to play and get better just through exposure. Now it's largely a private school thing, like most sports behind a paywall...

It is the DSTV Way ...

If this is the case, they really need to do better that all can benefit from matches! Negotiating is a skill that they don't have. As said here they want to fund their pockets and expensive service dstv
