SA Schools to be ‘50% black, 50% white’

To be honest, if I look at my old high school, they will need to find white kids because it is majority black.

I was also at the Jeppe-Parktown end of season rugby and the majority of the students and players were black too.

South Africa was always going to become ''blacker'' organically through sheer weight of numbers once race laws were repealed. They never had to force rapid - and damaging - change through legislation.

Excluding private schools whose makeup differ mostly due to their location there are still a lot of schools that are predominantly white - most of them are Afrikaans medium schools located in predominantly white areas. These schools are on average I suspect better functioning and better funded than schools in other areas who are at the sole mercy of the government.

The reason they are better funded is because the parents can afford to pay higher school fees so the school can employ extra teachers and has money to spend on resources that the state does not provide.

These schools are the easy targets she is aiming for - show your average ANC voter the nice and shiny "white" school and if they compare it to the Teachers union infested state school where they live it makes it easy for her to blame the white school for excluding their kids.

It would be a lot harder for her to explain to her voters why after almost 30 years in control she has not fixed the state school, or why the thieving and corrupt ANC has not grown the economy enough for them to afford to pay the higher school fees needed to send their kids to a decent school.

Putting the severe lack of math skills aside, what she is actually saying is that she wants white schools to be forced to accept 50% black pupils. Any sane person can predict how this ends, the white parents who can afford it will move their kids to private schools, not because they are racists but because the strain that the people in the school who are unable to pay puts on the school will mean the school fees for the paying people will have to be raised to the same level as private schools or the schools will just fail in the same way the state schools do.

So not fixing anything, just breaking the few functioning schools that are left. The ANC has to be very careful; at the rate they are obliterating the last few vestiges of a functioning economy and society they will soon run out of examples of white privilege to point to.
Parents have to pay, and schools need to find additional means to raise funds as the Department of Education doesn't give them much.
It's ridiculous...yet the same department will claim all the glory in the success of the school

My sons public school fees costs 1/3 of the rate of a Private School - but the supplementary fees from the parents allow them to employ the best teachers - the result and reputation speaks for itself.

The same could be done in the many underperforming schools..

I think she is trying to address a systematic failure with an emotionally-charged temporary solution

Also, the community/parents are often absent from the whole equation, until 99, then all of a sudden everyone has an interest

Of course what this witch conveniently omits here is that this big-brained scheme would operate on the what's-yours-is-mine-and-what's-mine-is-mine principle - meaning that, as with everything else, only majority white schools would need to comply.

My high school still does similar, raises money in various ways to employ additional teachers to reduce the teacher/pupil ratio as well as incentivize 'better' teachers in STEM subjects. My father was on the governing body and financial committee of the school in the 90's when I was there when the GDE told the school that they had to stop because it was an unfair practice as other schools didn't, couldn't or wouldn't do the same. The amount of garbage the GDE has tried to shove down semi-independent, successful schools over the years makes you understand why the education system is in the mess it is in.

So what happens if we are in majority white area.
Should we move the school closer to the black suburb or bus the kids in that does not want to come to the school to start with

How about just leave the schools as they are and start cleaning up the under performed schools

The ANC will eventually force all the public schools that can afford it to go private

No, she's on a mission. Illogical as it is. The systematic failure comes from her and her party, the ANC. They have failed everything and everyone.

Does anyone remember the incident in Checkers when a woman asked the assistant for a mandjie (Basket)? It ended with the assistant screaming that she was called a monkey. Why are people so sensitive?
