But, freedom fighters..... They surely did not fight to become poor, did they?
I believe the Daily Maverick left out something called the ANC here. Not even a war in the Ukraine could cause the damage they did.

Bariatric beds are really expensive, so this amount seems reasonable.

Wait. Something I caught in the article which isn’t covered by the headline yet I think is more important. Unlimited free electricity was because they “need to be available 24/7”, but R 2 million has been spent on generators for them?

Why do they need beds when they need to be available 24/7. They should not be sleeping.

Those adjustable is Tempur and its actually more expensive. You have to add the mattress too.

R1.8 million is hardly a biggie. It's like the price of one corrupt minister's car.

So remember, they have to buy beds in Pretoria and beds in Cape Town. And then its not just for the ministers, and deputy ministers, but also for their families and possibly their aides. The bed industry is like hardware stores. People will always need it.

A decent quality bed. ie Simmons King Size is R32k and thats without bedding even, or R1k for a decent pillow. Most Beds easily have 4x pillows.

So lets say R38k per bed for bedding, pillows, etc. And thats being generous. Thats barely 47 beds only.

So R1.8 million is hardly much to spend on bedding.

Much ado about nothing. Official residences will be fully furnished courtesy of the tax payer

If you don't like it leave. Although the odds of it being different in any other country are pretty remote so boo sucks for you

Are you aware that in countries like Korea, Japan and China the husband often sleeps in a seperate bed from his wife. They find that this is more relaxing sleeping wise and better for your health.

However back to the plot..

A Tempur Base will set you back R37k each x 2 if youre going King Size so R74k for the base
A decent mattress from them is about R22k each x 2 if King Size so R44K
Pillows are R2500 each x4 for the King Size bed (2 each) so R10k

And lets go for decent linen, about R5k

So R133k each

Thats only 13.5 beds for the R1.8 million bucks

Well said

So R1.8 million is cheap.

Doesnt Eskom's brooms cost more?

For me it is about the revelation that ministers are not just receiving the essential benefits as prescribed, but end up getting taxpayer-funded extravagant lifestyles.

Funny how they put the tame version in:

The tokoloshe — which looks like a baboon or a short hairy man with a long penis — is also reputed to have an insatiable sexual appetite and in order to satisfy this lust it prowls around at night to rape unsuspecting women.

A tokoloshe is believed to have an uncanny power called mashoshapansi — to make it go under. It can extend its penis to any length and send it underground into the genitals of a sleeping or unsuspecting woman. The creature can also enter the homes of people through a crack in the door.

Many of my informants tell me that divorce — one of the greatest social problems in the rural areas — is caused by tokoloshes raping wives of migrant labourers. When a woman loses interest in her husband, it is often interpreted as being the result of rape by the tokoloshe.

Not much point in putting bricks under the legs of your bed when the little fella can make his big fella go to any length.
