DAVOS-KLOSTERS, SWITZERLAND - South Africa will support Zimbabwe in whatever way it can but within the framework of what it is able to provide.

This is according to International Relations Minister Lindiwe Sisulu who was speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos in Switzerland on Tuesday.

Asked about the volatile situation in Zimbabwe, Sisulu said South Africa was keeping communication channels open with its southern African neighbour.

"We think that Zimbabwe is in an unfortunate position where large sections of the people are unhappy and expressing their unhappiness very publicly in the streets," she said.

"We would like to give whatever support we can to the government of Zimbabwe to make sure they can provide stability and calm the public in the most peaceful way possible.

"We are also prepared to support them in whatever way we can. I'm not sure if it will be financially, or whatever kind of aid we can provide. Our support will, of course, depend on our ability to provide them with whatever kind of support ...it will not necessarily be what they need but what we can afford."

South Africa reportedly turned down a request from Zimbabwe for a $1.2 billion (about R16.6 billion) loan in December.

Lindiwe, we already support half of Zimbabwe's working-age population as refugees.
The best we could do is send them back home to vote and sort out their country.
Staying here is not helping Zimbabwe.

If South Africa get through this election without destroying the economy, it may get to the point where we just take over Zimbabwe

Why bother when South African leaders themselves continue to endorse sham after sham of Zimbabwean elections and effectively supporting the ZANU PF party's continued reign of terror on the people of Zimbabwe?

You're a free radical but not a particularly smart one.

lets see now - we already give zimbabwe free electricity while our own people go without.
vast amounts of our own people do not have running water and sanitation services - this all costs a lot of money.

sorry zimbabwe, our own back yard is a mess that needs tidying up - we have to save ourselves before we can save you.

Open the borders. Say yes to illegal immigrants. They will be beneficial to our economy...

So we will support a regime to what ever means we can afford (never mind we have a 50% youth unemployment rate) that shuts down the internet because the governing tyrany (frankly that is what I think this new government is) is unhappy with their populace being unhappy by the fact you just raised fuel prices by what ..... 150%? Ja .... SOUNDS COMPLETELY REASONABLE TO ME.

What a awesome example we are showing Africa to be! You know what Donald.....call us a sh*thole ....cause frankly ....you are most propably right.
