Cool, now put in as much effort into setting the minimum driving standard e.g. Sending them to a driving camp

I thought the taxi industry was largely unregulated? The fact that a driver must be paid a minimum wage suggests that each driver and taxi needs to have the applicable permits and licence endorsements.

That said, unless a driver holds the required licencing permit I guess he/she will not be able to complain about not being paid the required wage?

This won't change a thing

Sorry but the very fact that most of the minibus taxi sector seems to currently be unregulated means the taxi owners can exploit this however they want and government will be non the wiser. Overloading of taxis will keep happening and bad driving as well.:(

I just don't think this will entice the taxi drivers to suddenly want to be registered on any sort of database system of the government. They might already make more than that money at the moment being unregulated.:whistling:

I thought the boss tells them "bring me R2000 a day and keep the rest"? That's why they drive like hyper turds. They need to make quota at all costs. If they are paid a minimum wage then they would all cruise around slowly and not give a damn about passenger numbers...

Maybe i've just solved taxi driving.

Does the increase make them more competent, responsible and courteous?

If not then its pointless. Pay them according to how much more safe they can make our roads.

hit the nail on the head, these guys have a daily quota to make, the minimum wage would help a bit, but the owners would probably enforce a minimum performance quota to qualify for the wage IMO
