Some incredible stats from the 5th ODI...

438 South Africa's total, the joint third-highest in ODIs. Four of the top six totals in ODIs have been scored by South Africa. This is also the highest total against India, comfortably going past the previous highest of 411, by Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009.

1 Instances of either of these two teams winning an overseas bilateral ODI series against the other. South Africa's 3-2 series win here is the first such instance. They had lost four of their five earlier ODI series in India and drawn one, while India have lost all four of their ODI series in South Africa.

214 The result margin, the biggest win for South Africa in an ODI against India (in terms of runs). It's their sixth-largest win in all ODIs, and India's second-largest defeat ever.

6 Number of times South Africa have gone past 400 in ODIs; it's the most instances by any team. India have achieved it five times, while Australia and Sri Lanka have got there twice each. Overall, this is the 17th score of 400 or more in an ODI.

2 Instances of three batsmen scoring hundreds in an ODI. The only previous instance was also by South Africa, against West Indies in January 2015, when Hashim Amla, Rilee Rossouw and de Villiers all got centuries.

358 The previous-highest ODI total at the ****hede Stadium, by New Zealand against Canada in a World Cup game in 2011. That was also the only previous instance of a team getting 300-plus at this ground. In a day-night game, the previous-highest here was 286, by Australia against India in 2003.

1 Number of batsmen, among those who have scored at least 500 ODI runs, who average more than 50 at a strike rate of 100 or more - de Villiers is the only one, with an average of 54.21 and a career strike rate of 100.28. This is the first time in his ODI career that his strike rate has exceeded 100.

9 Instances of all batsmen achieving a strike rate of 100 or more in an ODI innings when at least five batsmen have batted. Before this match, the last time it happened was in June this year, when England chased 350 in 44 overs against New Zealand at Trent Bridge. It's the first such instance for South Africa.

5 Number of ODI hundreds for de Villiers when he has come in to bat after the 25th over. The only other batsman who has more than one such century is Virat Kohli, who has two.

106 Runs conceded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the second-highest in an ODI, after Mick Lewis' 113, also against South Africa, in that game in Johannesburg in 2006. Mohit Sharma's economy rate of 12 per over (84 runs in seven overs) is the worst by an Indian bowler who has bowled at least seven overs in an ODI.

20 Sixes in the South African innings, the second-highest ever in an ODI. The record is 22, by New Zealand against West Indies in Queenstown in January 2014. That ODI was a 21-overs-per-side game.

169 Runs scored by South Africa in the last 12 overs, with 15 sixes and eight fours. In ten of those 12 overs they scored more than ten runs.

123 Innings for Hashim Amla to get to 6000 ODI runs, which is the fastest by any batsman. The previous fastest was 136 innings, by Virat Kohli. Amla is now the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6000 ODI runs.

195 De Villiers' strike rate in his 119, which is the fourth-highest for a 100-plus score in an ODI by a South African. Nine of the top 12 such innings are by de Villiers

9 Innings played by de Kock to score five ODI hundreds against India, which is the fewest innings to register five hundreds against a team. The previous lowest was 18, by Salman Butt, also against India. de Kock averages 74.11 against India, and 32.34 against all other teams.

164* The partnership between du Plessis and de Villiers, the second-best for the third wicket for South Africa against India. The highest is 173 not out, by de Villiers and Jacques Kallis in Ahmedabad in 2010. South Africa had another 150-plus stand too, as Quinton de Kock and du Plessis added 154, which is South Africa's second-highest for the second wicket against India. Both are among the top six in terms of run-rates, for South African century stands against India.

2 Instances of the team batting first winning all matches of a bilateral series of five or more matches. The only previous instances was in a series between South Africa and Pakistan in the UAE in 2013, which South Africa won 4-1.

That one about AB de Villiers scoring 5 hundreds when coming in AFTER the 25th over is just mind blowing! :wtf:

What elevates him beyond his incredible stats is his humble and honest nature which always shines through - example, he will walk before the unpire lifts his finger, or, he's never shy to apportion his personal records, in part, to his team mates. He never gets angry with anyone but himself, a true gentleman and ambassador for the game.

I don't know of any cricketer who has had the admiration from fans in opposing countries as he has had, so much so, that they even cheered him willing him to score that 100. Was truly amazing to watch.

What a player.

Yet we haven't.

Pujara did himself no favours with his innings. He must be fighting for a place in the team. India have plenty to choose from with the likes of Rahane and Raina able to full a place or two. As for the response, 2 down. You'd think they'd be fighting tooth and nail for a placing the starting line of the first test.

Dane Piedt got a pole from what I can see, but was hellishly expensive. If they are going in with 1 spinners, it will be a tough call on Tahir, if the leave him out. Elgar turns the ball a bit, so he is almost certainly going to count as 1 of the spin bowlers even if it is only 10 to 15 overs that he bowls.

I see none of our seamers bowled in that second innings. Not worried when we have well in India its been our seamers doing the job with a bit of support from the spinners, same strat as when aus have done well in india.

More worried about the # form, we need him to start scoring.

First Test from Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh

India won the toss and are batting first. Pitch looks very strange. NO grass. Cracks all over the place. Even Sunil Gavaskar was surprised...
