poor decision to send in a night watchman on this pitch.

if your top order batsmen are struggling then how on Earth do you expect a NW to survive?
Isn't that the point of a night watchman? To eat as many overs as possible on a difficult pitch - not necessarily to "survive" - so that a batsman won't have to get his eye in twice on a pitch that will only give you one chance.

The problem was really with the choice of night watchman. Imran is not exactly known for good defense.

The idea is that the night watchman should bat through to the close of play and then frustrate the opposition bowlers during the next day's play.

Tahir is cannon fodder, not a night watchman. Either Vilas or Harmer would have been a better choice.

This I agree with. Any lad who can hold a bat. Even Morne would have been a better choice than Tahir.

He probably would have come in but he was off due to his injury and could not come in to bat so soon.

A pity they didn't think it through before sending Tahir in.

Meh! no loss - focus the mind of the actual batsmen - no false hope when looking at the scoreboard and seeing only 1 down - should have sent the entire tail in to open - they're going to be useless at the end if the top order fails anyway.

Good point.

There is already lots of turn for the spinners. Its not necessarily bad for us, I mean thus far our spinners did quite well. We just need to realise 250 is a good score and focus to get there instead of putting ourselves under too much pressure. Batting positively will get us to 250 easier than trying to block and not get out. This was our mistakein the first test. Too negative.

On this pitch ALL batsmen are cannon fodder so makes no difference who goes in.

There's more red on Taahir's bat than Vilas and Harmer combined.

We've seen this series so far that it's a low scoring affair. 250 would be a great first innings score. If they go out there and try score 500, that's where problems arise. Bat like you're aiming for 250 and it will be a lot better. 250 would be great, 300 would be amazing but right now, even drawing level would be an achievement in itself.

Sad indictment on the state of Indian wickets where 215 is considered a good score, IMO...

Exactly. Agree with you. Rather go out and bat normally and you should get close to their score. Try and defend all the way and defensive shots get the edges or bat pads and you end up with 120.
